I mean they can always fly more MIG-29K/Ka-52K later on once the flight operations are stabilized. by that time more pilots will be qualified. its the quantity of bombs dropped per day that is measurement of carrier effectiveness. this carrier will hold a lot of cargo.

    Because, Russia…

When Russian fanboys put up posts like the ones in the Norwegian air force thread that is fine of course, but pointing out that the Kuznetsov has crippling engine problems that have seen the ship in dock most of its existence is somehow “anti Russian.”

The Kuznetsov is a failed project… due to its crippling engineering deficiencies it has only barely operated over its life and its replacement is already being discussed despite its relatively young age. Despite all the fanfare about its deployment, it is bringing ~15 fighters to Syria, where they will be able to operate only lightly loaded due to its lack of catapults.

how exactly is Kuznetov a failed project?. without Kuznetov Russia would not have been export this whole MIG-29K/Viki combo. this development/ training paid by itself everything to keep the knowledge. without Kuznetov there wont have been this extensive training of Ka-52K.
Now Kuznetov is moving to the only battle that matter to Russia in 21st century. i am sure the quantity of quality of strikes from kuznetov will be better than any other carrier done in recent history.how you know how many fighters/choppers/cargo it is bringing?. fighters can always flow directly to it once its in the theater. just wait and watch the show.

I’m surprised they didn’t go with a nuclear plant.

nuclear plant is if using carrier more sustain operation. now very advanced nuclear plants of 5G developed along with high automation.

two 34000 tons icebreakers with nuclear propulsion cost $1.2b. the strength of steel to break such strong deep ice will be at aircraft carrier level.

Aircraft carrier electromagnetic catapult in development in Russia

I will estimate that in post 2020 period they will start actual building of carrier. the technology would have moved enough that less manpower will be needed to operate and built it.

if its defective. they wont be sending it on 6 month voyage. It is not Chinese and Indian carrier that only stay inside there ocean. we have to see its strike operation and how much is night time.

bubble raised canopy is outdated concept that reduce real sustain top speed. now wars are fought with advanced sensors and netcenteric communication. china also building a bridge to Russia.

Engines aside, Russia imports far more from China and relies a lot on Exports to China for its GDP. for China, Russia is only a small part of both import and export.
China has some new engines coming out that will end the need for Russian engines, the last area where it imports from Russia.

China fans don’t care about Russia beyond its Russian fan boys.
China’s enemy has been and always been Japan and lately, South Korea.

China imports far more important stuff from Russia. when you look at the whole picture of importance.
Chinese uranium centrifuge and nuclear reactor is based on Russian tech. C919 titanim is from Russia. only Russian provide the cheapest fresh air and water.

Chinese has to compete with SKorea and Japan/Vietnam for Russian market. there is ramazan kadyrov that time to time attract surplus capital from middleast.

    http://www.asianmetal.com/metal_cron/index_lunshi_leirangqi_en.shtml

The above data show that profits of China’s titanium enterprises are a bit higher than Japan’s enterprises but far below those of US and Russian companies, and profits of Russian enterprises are higher than US titanium companies.

For reasons of the above conclusion, almost 80% of titanium materials are applied for aerospace and military industry with high added value in Russia, and profits of Japan’s titanium products are mainly for civil use with few profits despite perfectly manufacturing and high exports. Product structure decides profits, and profits of products with cutting-edge technology or for high end market are high.

What is funny is that I state the obvious, and get accused of being anti-Russian. Maybe the obvious is anti-Russian?

Seriously, look at the excitement this deployment is generating and imagine if the French reacted the same way every time their carrier deployed…

French naval operations are practically worthless so there is no point in following them.

    I did, did you?

Do you honestly think navies spend their time practicing firing ropes to tugs? Is that a core skill for Russian sailors on the Kuznetsov?

“Gee, the carrier didn’t break down this deployment, let’s practice towing it anyway to get ready for next time…”

obviously they will practice towing procedures on the biggest vessel they have in the navy. isn’t that logical. Russian navy has done very reliable operations supporting more than 100k combatants in Syria for past 5 years and still maintain 10 ships/subs in mediterranean for missile strikes and protection of terror boats.

Today? I really don’t know. I certainly believe that Russia will produce such a jet in the very distant future with greater certainty than Sweden ever will.

Sweden hasn’t produce 4th generation fighter by Ruaf standards let alone moving to next generation.

Just because it was able to get its engines working again doesn’t mean they didn’t break…

The idea that they would be “training” to tow an aircraft carrier in high seas is just laughable.

The MIG-29K were also trained on Kuzentov. so it is highly likey they were training for Viki delivery to India incase. Russia ships are highly reliable. just look at Sryian express for almost 5 years continuous supply.

they need to keep MIG-35 fully updated and production ready like SAMs.
there are plenty of opportunity coming down the line in Middleast for fighters like MIG-35/Su-30SM.

Can you blame them? They have needed that tug on previous trips…

    http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/navy-ships/a18141/towing-admiral-kuznetsov-video-tugboat/

you cannot bring 2012 example. as in 2012 most of staff who are experienced in carrier are more likely to be working on preparing Vikimadita.
Kuznetov never had serious overhaul and upgrades.

they can convert into nuclear power and with full automation of functions and likely decrease in weight. i don’t see why it cannot be used for same like Viki.

Well EU is partner in F-35 and I think MTU also played part in F119. but i don’t think they can make the whole product. EU will grow old and poor before it can become power.
