What manufacturing?
If you are thinking of automotive think again. The remaining manufacturing is specialised and not the kind that produces volumes.
Traditional manufacturing is only a fraction of the British economy…..it’s cheaper to pay someone in China or India to make something….the way forward is specialised high value and hi-tech products (including some steel and machine tools) ……traditional manufacturing will never come back again and it’s ok….
Spot on Marcellogo.
The economy of London alone is the same size as Sweden or Belgium….bigger than Iran currently.
The referendum to leave was won because people in the traditional heartlands of labour voted leave because they haven’t seen any of cream……so what if London is the top financial centre of the world, best legal and accounting services, has the best museums, theatres, sport, transport (especially the new £16 billion Crossrail project….will boost economy and land values in its wake), new IT and media start ups around Silicon roundabout….compared to London there isn’t enough of that in some of the north and Midlands….all the top paying jobs are in London….they had nothing to lose by voting leave
Politicians need to address this…..spread the money around the country…..London has a pull because it is the capital as well as the above and is getting richer and richer….but more telling is the average price of a property is £0.5m in London and tiny houses in the inner suburbs going for £1m…..elsewhere the average price is only £200k……many years ago you could buy a house for 3 or 4 times an annual salary…..now more like 15-20 times….but the problem is most people can’t even afford a 5% 10% deposit unless given by mum or dad or you already have a house…..working people are paying expensive rent which is going up because the government stopped supporting house building (the proposed plans for Housing Associations will have the effect of less homes).
One way to boost the economy is not just by printing bank notes, but infrastructure projects like Crossrail 2 and HS2…..these will create jobs and spread spending power in the economy….similar to the French TGV which boosted once poor regions with previously poor links…..unlike Liam Fox who clearly hasn’t got a clue about HS2 and thinks it’s about getting somewhere 20 minutes faster…..instead of what it is: putting into place capacity that was ripped out of the British railway system in the late 1950s (when motorways and Heavy lorries were thought to be the future) and early 1960s sixties by the Beeching report (Beeching was a manager in the now dead chemical company ICI)……these projects will be like the New Deal of FDR (projects like the Coulee Dam) will have tangible and measurable benefits to the British economy.
thanks.

Jonesy,
Like a lot of others I’m pretty fed up with the whole thing…..but I believe you’ve put it well.
Black, Jewish, lost an eye in a car crash……wow…..but he had more talent than you could shake a stick at!
This is live in Berlin at his best…..he must have been around 60….just 4 years before he died…
You can see him sing, dance, and act all in one song…..Mr Bojangles!
Sarah Smile….. and around 4:30 Oo Baby Baby…….Smokey Robinson….Darryl Hall…
Real musicians singing and playing live……this is as good as it gets….

Daryl Hall hosts real musicians, songwriters to play live at his house “Live From Daryl’s House” Enjoy!

Hi Mr BlueSky
If you’d like to hear how top pianist can improvise and turn a cheesy song like feelings into a classy and classical piano work listen from about 3:20 to the end …..it’s worth it!
Nina Simone had so much talent and held the concert with just her piano and a percussionist ;- )
Real music written and played by Steve Forbert – Jackrabbit Slim – Make It All So Real
Not a bad track on the whole album……he never made it big but is still writing and touring……
Hi Geoff,
Thanks I like the Dubliners!
If you had a bad day listen to this great song from the 90s…..it’ll make you feel good!
The Lightening Seeds – Lucky You

I’d Really Love to See You Tonight….England Dan and John Ford Coley
A great song that takes me back to a better time…..maybe everything seems better looking back?
Another seventies classic…….Baby come back…..by Player…giant of a song!
Added later:
Just heard this from around the same-ish time (early eighties)……always the last song played in the Union bar (either this or Golden Brown by the Stranglers:D )
Foreigner……..Waiting for a Girl Like You
This is a complete fallacious argument.
Before visiting France Modi was briefed by Parrikar. He clearly took the decision with the MOD in full confidence and attempted to meet both the IAF’s demand for the Rafale in urgency as well as the MOD’s concerns about the flawed earlier deal in tandem by attempting to have the French Govt work with GOI for a new revised deal.
Claiming that the contract is entirely due to the PM when he has given full carte blanche to the MOD to negotiate the deal is also not factual.
The PM is doing what the PM is meant to do, intervene at the highest levels and attempt to have a partly political solution to serious issues. The details are left to the concerned officials. If it doesn’t work out, that can happen too but he doing what Parrikar was clearly informed about and was aware of.
+1
Vomad can’t help himself….its just embarrassing the way he twists and turns! Just give it up man before you turn into JSR:D!
The whole world knows India should have bought the Mirage 2000 production line when it was offered.
It could have been a simple follow on order for the Mirage 2000 and signed up 15 years ago!
India could have built as many Mirage 2000-9 as it wanted! Multi-role and self escorting and one-for-one replacements for MiG21, MiG-27 etc. would not have been be required….but too late now!
Was it someone in the bureaucracy decided M-2000-5 was a different aircraft from the M-2000 (when it was essentially the same plane with improvements) that led to the MMRCA competition?
(the opposite of when the Russians had to pretend for internal budgetary reasons the Tu-22M Backfire was the same plane as the Tu-22 Blinder with improvements when it was a completely different plane!).
Something is clearly wrong with the procurement process if nothing happens for 15 years…..clearly there are budgetary reasons this time round why 126 was cut to 36…..if the decision to buy is confirmed spreading out the rest over a few fiscal years will make it easier budget-wise.
This will hold the fort with a non-Russian plane (so not all eggs in one basket with a force of Su-30s and later Su-50s) and if going for non-US of course it will be more expensive with smaller production runs of planes, missiles etc., but that’s the price for independence of action.
If a decision is made to buy F-16 or F-18 (they did not meet MMRCA criteria and Gripen NG was not flying) I believe it will be no different as others have said and it’ll be back to square one!
The 90s were great! And a great song….. ….Lovefool…by The Cardigans…..live at Shepherds Bush London….great venue…
216 million views……Don’t speak…..No Doubt
A Whiter shade of Pale ……..great original video and of its time
It was of course based on a Bach melody and is timeless.
Here’s Procol Harum (aged a bit like us all!) singing the same song in 2006 at Ledreborg Castle, Denmark… with the Danish National Concert Orchestra….sublime
