SEN will always be dogged by its Short Runway with Church and trainlines at the ends! I seem to remember an EAC B732 having problems this summer due it tanking fuel for a return flight to Cardiff and then onto BOH, that means evenm the likes of Ryanair would struggle with a Dublin run!
Too much competition nearby too I think with the City and STN is such close proximity, however it is VLMs diversion airport when LCY is shut, that probably accounts for a fair percentage of the Airports passenger numbers!

As well as the 748s theres usually Shorts 360s and ATPs there, 4x based Dauphin of CHC Scotia, Flykeens Bandits, BNWAs PA31s, plus the Ryanairs and Charters, and the odd good biz-jet, cant think y they would be going to Blackpool tho!

Dave, very true, but Ryanair launched both their services post-LPL agreement, and at present LPL still only has 2 Ryanair routes – Dublin and Girona, this agreement was signed around 2001 and the only route introduced since then was the Girona, at the expense of the Charloroi route. Its only the last 2 months that Milan and Rome have been announced!

Aurigny also have been flying a Royal mail route to LPL with their ATR72 in conjunction with the 2 channex aircraft, however at present and for reasons unknown a Binair metro has been flying it instead.

I fly regularly to STN from there, but the airport also has an intesive Helicopter flying operation, and Emerald also do maintainance on their fleet of Aircraft from there.
A regional route to ABZ may work (oil), but anything other than loco and charter routes may struggle from there, similar really to HUY.
