    Airbase moving

Does this mean my beloved DC-6 Diner will also be moving south? i for one will sorely miss the sights and sounds that resound around the midlands skies from these aircraft on air test, they have already spent a huge amount on the facilities at coventry ,surely they dont have the pockets for such a move, even given the depths of Mr Colletts pockets in the past?

I would have thought it highly likely that B29 Washingtons and Lancasters have shared the same piece of sky during the late 40s and 50s?

    PILOTS TO SEE

YOU KNOW WHAT THOUGH? ITS ALL WELL AND GOOD SLATING THESE PILOTS WHO END UP IN THE DECK, BUT THEY ARE THERE TO ENTERTAIN! MANY PEOPLE PAY THEIR MONEY TO GO TO AIRSHOWS WITH THE WHOLE IDEA OF A MISHAP BEING A BONUS! , I BET YOU COULDNT HEAR THE CRUMPLING OF THE AIRFRAME FOR CAMERA SHUTTERS! HAD HE PULLED OFF THAT RIDICULOUS ‘CIRCUS STUNT’ AND LIVED TO FLY ANOTHER DAY THEN I DARE SAY THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN MANY ADMIRING LOOKS AND REMARKS AS HE TAXIED IN PAST THE CROWDLINE.IT WAS A MISJUDGED MANOUVRE AND I ,IF I’M BEING TOTALLY HONEST I MISS THOSE SPIRITED DISPLAYS WHICH BEST MIMICKED THE WAY THESE AIRCRAFT WERE FLOWN WHEN IN THEIR NATURAL WARTIME ENVIRONMENT. I CAN WELL REMEMBER SOME VERY SPIRITED DISPLAYS BY SPITS AND OTHER HOT METAL AT MUCH LOWER HEIGHTS THAN ALLOWED TODAY AND THE WORLD SEEMED A BETTER PLACE FOR IT.

    Connie display

Well when the last connie appeared at cosford i was listening to the tower on my trustee airband receiver, the connie skipper who had just completed two runs up and down cosfords flightline said he had plenty of fuel and didnt mind doing a few more turns and topside views but the cosford controller replied negative as he had another act in the holding spot over some local reservoir i believe? i couldnt believe he denied a longer display of such a rare visitor to these shores to bring on a spotty jet provost from memory? These ATCs have a lot to answer for!

    Airline.

Ive been lucky to have been watching Airline for the past fifteen years or so as i approached yorkshire tv and they kindly sent me copies of the series on VHS along with some stills and promotional literature from the series including a bank statement with Ruskin Air Services logo from his bank in Garton, all treasured possessions , i too have ordered my DVD copies as the old VHS is getting grainy now.A fabulous series and i so wish theyd found the funding for a second and third series as im led to believe that Wilfred Greatorex had them written.

    Dayglo paint

Whilst on the subject of the foybles of applying Dayglo, a good case in point is the Canso/Catalina at Coford, at some point in the late eighties it aquired a repaint, but the dayglo on the nose in particular has a dreadful finish, and given the high quality of the rest of the collection i am amazed it hasnt received some work to rectify this.it is patchy and full of runs, anyone else noticed this?

    Right……. here goes!

Who remembers a film with a very early B17? xb17 woteva? where they hacked the tail off and then put a machine gun inside and the tail wheel came up and almost crushed the poor gunner? was it called Air Force? havent seen it in donkeys, but it must have been fairly memorable.
