Just then a big bloke drove over in an open-topped Rolls Royce and after a brief conversation he told us to clear off, so we did.
Ah sounds like Doug Arnold…. I got told to F**k off several times by Mr Arnold.
My aeroplane is locked safely in it’s hangar inside R112. Flying is (was?) fun, and should not involve all this bolleaux to go for a VFR bimble round the block. I’m using the down time productively and doing some work on the aeroplane and ironically, fitting a new radio & transponder.
Amazing that in the supposedly ‘free’ Western world, we have less freedom than the rest of the world…All in the name of sport.
That’s taken in Tiger Airways hangar. Are they going to operate it?
Yes he was. I have a BBMF brochure here somewhere with his picture in it, sitting in one of the fighters.. 1977 or 1978ish
Too high though, which was surprising considering the weather conditions!
I disagree. If I were flying a single engined warbird over London, with thousands of people in attendance, many of who will be in the very places a forced landing could take place, I think I’d want as much height as possible in case the engined failed/stopped…. In this case, the MOD will have weighed up the risk against the occasion and probably set a minimum height.
The weather looked better than it was a few miles south
Paramotor ‘Pilots’ indeed don’t need licenses at present, but they do have to obey the Rules of the Air. Now I work out that if there are no Licenses, how do the ‘pilots’ know about the Rules of the Air? Yet you do need CAA permission to fly a model aircraft of 20kg+….. Confused.com
I reckon that apart from getting shot if somebody tried to fly into the stadium, that paramotors would be severely restricted in what they could do after the event.
Can’t have these loose cannons doing what they want now can we?
I’m getting more and more convinced that we DO live in a Police state, all done in the name of ‘security’. The Police can literally do anything they want in the name of “security’.
The Human Rights Act
FFS, Get a grip man!!
If you don’t want to have your license suspended, stay out of the Restricted Zone. Easy peasy. It’s all a big stick ploy to just make sure all those idiots who are planning on joining in with the nausea and flying around London will 200% make sure they don’t infringe. The public feel safer and the Politicians feel like they are doing something.
The CAA can suspend your license any time they want if they have the grounds to do so. And the Government can close the airspace any time they want, as they did post 11/9. The Human ‘Rights’ Act doesn’t even figure…
I do sometimes wonder whether these forums are wholly populated by Daily Mail readers……..
When I flew a Beta (G-AWHV), it had been significantly modified for speed with faired wheel spats and had lost that ridiculously long undercarriage. Mind you, that did have the effect of a looooooooooong float on landing if you got the speed wrong:eek:

Looks like a Lycoming AEIO-540
The Bristol Fighter restoration allowed the enthusiasts to see three of them in the air together, on two separate occasions, something not seen since the 30s. It’s a private aircraft, the owner does what he wishes with it..
Which in this case was to trade it for an engine and a Heinkel 162, the engine for a DH9 project which will make it a unique type flying.
People should remember that restorers and pilots do not do ‘their thing’ for the spotters of this world, despite what these forums would have you think.. With many owners, it’s just a business..
PS, the F2B was lovely 🙂

Amazed to see it at an airshow in Luxembourg in ’94. Haven’t seen it since.
You could have mentioned the 100 Halifax, Hampden and Typhoons in crates, stored in these disused London Underground stations since the war under a joint UK/Chinese plot to take over the world post WW2. Unfortunately, due to the 13.20 Circle Line service from Aldgate East being cancelled due to a points failure at Gospel Oak, the Chinese never turned up for the meeting, the Americans stepped in and have ruled the world ever since.
Pagen,
Haven’t you realised that people on aviation forums ALWAYS know more than the owner of the aeroplane does???:D
