Nice post. The F-16 is better across almost all categories.

The F/A-18 is a both a carrier plane and an all purpose bomb truck. It’s penalized from the beginning by its requirements. The F-18L with several thousand pounds less weight from the navalization would be far closer in the categories above.

Also, three things that even the navalized F-18 is better at and which are critical in an A2A engagement is
1) the Hornet has the best radar of the three,
2) it has a higher angle of attack than the other two before stall and
3) it has a better rate of roll.

Turning fights are overrated. If that was the case, the Zero would have dominated to the end of the Pacific war. Turning fights are even less important today with the advent of AMRAAM.

Anyways, if a land-based dedicated fighter like the MiG-29 can’t beat the horny Hornet by a wide margin (and the Fulcrum doesn’t) then it is nowhere near any of the American teen series. The battle record proves it too.

Good. What is the greatest reflection of a society? The health and well being of its citizens.

When the largest so-called “democracy” in the world is filled to the brim (like Dante’s 9 levels of Hell) with the most appallingly poor people in the world, it is also a reflection of the society.

When that country’s children die more often and live shorter lives than even the worst and most brutish commie country (North Korea) in the world, then that is also a reflection of the country.

A reflection of not only its immense poverty in wealth. But of its poverty in freedom and human decency as well. The quality of pilots should be the last thing a free people worry about when their infant mortality rate is twice than of commie North Korea.

You should look at the infant mortality & longevity of Cuba & some of the E. European countries when they were communist. Compare them with other countries at the same time. Go back a bit, maybe to the 1960s & 1970s.

Not compared to the United States, the Pacific Rim (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea) and Western Europe.

There are free societies like the above where every social and economic indicators prove that they are free.

Then there are “free” societies like the “world’s largest democracy” where it is “free” in name only.

I think you’d be very surprised by what you find. For any given level of income, communist countries had better life expectancy & infant mortality than non-communist for most of their existence – and Cuba still does, much better.

Anyone with an understanding of politics and history would know that there are unfree systems that are worse than communism. Those are the feudal and caste systems which led to communism in Russia, China, Vietnam, Cuba, etc. in the first place.

The world’s “largest democracy” is famous for having one of the worst of these caste systems.

So for someone like Ramachandran to talk about free and commie pilots while his own country trails even communist nations in all the basic categories of human life is stupid beyond words.

If infants in the world’s “largest democracy” are dying at twice the rate of North Korea which is synonymous with commie inefficiency and misplaced priorities, then it is most certainly not a free society in any shape or form.

“Free” doesn’t mean extreme poverty and premature death.
