How many of you that have posted have children? How many have more than one, or even two? Where are they going to live? The simple fact is we all have too many offspring, this is a small country, forget all that right wing stuff about too many immigrants, they form only a part of the population. The fact that we are a modern, successful first world country means we breed like rabbits and the rabbit cubs survive. They need housing. If you live next to an airfield and moan then I have no sympathy

I am not techy but if you look at the statistics for accidents and “incidents” you will see that British microlights both fixed wing and weightshift are as safe as other small aircraft or helicopter.
I don’t think you do anyone any favours by maligning one type of aircraft or pilot.

Still smarting at the total shambles of the Yeovilton Centenary of Naval Flying debacle a couple of weeks ago, I returned to my car after a mildly disappointing Dover 2009 Bleriot Centenary display at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School to find a polite note expressing regret at the reduction of the flying programme today and offering a refund!

Hats off to Cresting Ltd, who organised the display, but not the strong winds, and felt that some reduction in ticket price was necessary. Well done!

I wonder if they would like to replace AHA at Yeovilton next year?

I wish I had seen one of those, winds were part of the problem, the organisation was pretty poor. That may have been the only point Cresting scored all weekend….

The crossing of the 3 Bleriot XIs has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions on the continent. Just announced as I sat down on the hotel balcony ready to see them arriving. Also earlyer the BBMF Spitfire had to canx due to bursting the tailwheel.

Sort of stuffed the weekend, Bleriot celebrations without Bleriots… The weather looks worse for tomorrow so can’t even see them giving it a second go.

So having two Bleriots arrive in the morning is not good enough? One of them containing probably as many original bits as Michael Carlson’s (and I mean no disrespect to him but all of the woodwork is new) and one flown on an original 80hp Le Rhone. Edmond Salis flew the aeroplane his father had flown across the channel for the 60th anniversary in 1969 and by his grandfather for the 50th in 1959. No mean feat, three generations on three significant anniversaries in the same aeroplane. He deserves some credit.

No, you are not weird at all. I can fully understand your position and it is understandable. You are also in good company, the rather wonderful Robert Rudhall was a true aviation enthusiast and hated flying. I have no idea of the reasons but he would only willingly fly in the Lancaster.

But, I cannot understand people who get very passionate and opinionated about flying and the history of flying but willingly and blindly spent large amounts of cash avoiding actually doing it.

I can understand an interest in aviation engineering and the historical context of how these machines developed. A cockpit section built to the original drawings is one thing, but a plastic Spitfire shaped lump in a garage is not worth losing the significant other for. It is an Airfix kit and means nothing. It is not a Spitfire, it will never BE a Spitfire and you will learn nothing other than how much glass fibre irritates the skin.

Hi Billy, very sensible suggestion, just learn to fly instead! I clocked up about 15 hours at Staveron in a Robin + countless hours years ago in a chipmonk and bulldog during my beloved CCF days. However ( big bummer) I some how have developed a proper fear of flying. I’m probably the oly one out there who loves aircraft but is not to keen on what they do. I lost a close friend and a family member to a flying accident and now i’m petrified of flying.

I know it’s like haveing a Ferrari GTO in the garage and never driving it but it’s the machines themselves I love……..am I weird??
