I thought a new carrier has just abandoned due to budget considerations …

Another desperate and IMO stupid attempt to bring in the T50 or here the 1.44 into the J-20 discussion.

Deino. What have we learned from taking news media outlets seriously?

This is a new Tu-160 with a new serial or tail number. Its a new addition to the existing Tu-160 fleet.
Now you guys don’t think they made a few improvements as well?

We are basicly debating nothing here..

Yes and no. I agree with you, that taking news outlets seriously not always leads to facts … but in certain forums just a certain group of – to be careful – “Russian-supporters exactly claim such things and if You question alone such statements or such news outlets they immediately condemn you as biased, anti-Russian and so on. Exactly these guys are hyping nothing to everything.

Point is: it is based on an old – in fact very old – airframe, finished with new engines, new avionics and maybe certain new parts but structure-wise it is the old Tu-160 … just a new-built. Period, and IMO discussing these differences is not talking about nothing.

It would be the same as those “new” build Su-27SM3. The Tu is newly assembled by stocked parts from older production.
It doesn’t matter. This is a new Tu-160, period.

Not exactly. NEW in the meaning of a “new-built” and that’s no question indeed, but if You look at some media outlets from certain Russian “sources”, which state it is a complete redesigned aircraft featuring a 100% new internal structure + materials and only shape-wise they are the same it is not a new bird if it is built from parts constructed around 1991+.

    That’s the point.

Russia Works on MiG-41 Doomsday Fighter Jet

What a stupid report. Full of unachievable schedules (likely to be put to test in 2020:highly_amused:, passed into service already in 2025.:highly_amused:, …) either a plain stupid drunk guy or a fan-boys wet-dream.

It’s indeed such reports that result that no one really cares seriously what is published on Russian projects. 😔

    Interesting pics and topic.
Is the J-16 an improved incarnation of Su-30MKK/Su-30M2?
The older inferior version should be Su-30MK2.

Indeed … and besides several operational at the FTTC, the 176th Brigade (together with the J-20As) the first frontline unit also received them at Wuhu.

My take – The production J-20 is slightly longer than the demonstrators 2001/2002. Longest point is the tail-boom. No matter how I slice it I cannot get a value below 21m, but it is less than 21.5m and shorter than the earlier 22 to 23 meter estimates. I know some even claimed it would be around 25m .

Indeed … but idiots are everywhere. The most recent excuse from such a certain member at the PDF was:

I am simply questioning the identity of the flanker behind the J-20, and the statement that it’s wingspan is 14.7m.
Why are you, or anybody else, so sure it’s 14.7m?

And a few post later he even claimed:

That he found out by comparisons that the Flanker’s span is in fact 15.70 and Sukhoi simply fooled us all..

Really ??? I thought the length is 21.93 without the pitot.

And as I expected here’s already the first excuse why I’m wrong with my estimation: :highly_amused:

    3x J-20 and 3x Su-35.

    Nope, … these are 3 J-16.

And by the way it is finally a clearer image available, that now allows a better estimation of the J-20’s dimensions.
So no longer an estimation based on a grainy satellite image.

But I’m sure certain members at the PDF and here too will again present us a theory why the J-20 is still about 22-23m long.

Guys … is there a reason to be so fat off-topic already ? None of Your latest replies has anything to do with either the JF-17, the J-10 or LCA??
