Hey … the Russian Press seems really funny !!!! 😀

«In the summer of 2007 a Chinese J-10 fighter “Tzianbin-10”, created on Israeli Lavi basis with Russian engines АL-31FN, managed to shoot down an American multipurpose fighter of the 5th generation F-22 Raptor above the Taiwan Strait.
During the incident subflight Su-30 blocked other American Air Force aircraft off the “Feathered Raptor”. The shot down Raptor fell down the continental part of China and after that was taken to pieces “for spare parts” by the locals. And the successfully catapulted F-22 pilot was “quietly” – by mutual consent of the parties – sent by the Chinese to the American Command…».

    True.

The Indian FGFA will have literally every advantage, though marginal, in the bulk of the parameters such as performance, maneuverability and weapons systems, though both the J-10B and FGFA would be acquired in limited numbers, i.e. no more than two combat squadrons.

But the J-10B is nearly ready to enter serial production whereas the FGFA will need its time … and for sure a lot of more time even to make its first flight. As such a starnge comnparison.
    🙁

Sorry guys, this discussion is completely senseless and reminds me of Dr. Carlo Kopps comparison of the F-22 and the Su-27 in an older AI feature.

As said by some: both aircarft are from two different generations and both are different classes.

If You like, then compare the T-50 + FGFA with the XXJ or all with the Raptor … but currently there’s nothing realy to compare, since the T-50 has just entered flight testing, the FGFA will need its time and the XXJ too.

Something just doesn’t feel right with that picutre

Agreed but … IMO – even if I’m not sure too – it shows a yellow prototype with the never seen before grey radome.

And to say the hook is psed … I think the picture is too blurred !

Maybe we will see some better pictures in the next days like we got them after the first blurred yellow “thing” …

I’d like to congratulate Deino & the PRC on their latest counterfeit.

Ohh … please don’t thank me … I only posted it here, the pictures were found by “=GT” at the CDF … :diablo:

With T-50s and new MiG-35 russia will remain ahead, so congratulations to Sukhoi, the Su-33 is old and the J-15 a mere copy based upon technology transfered from Ukraine

And YES, You are correct ! Thank goes to Sukhoi … and YES again, the Su-33 is a dated design.
However for China – regardless any political, technical or esp. legal discussion (here even more justified than for the J-11B !) – it is a huge step.

Just some news … yesterday there appeared a new set of pictures showing that SAC-linup much clearer … anmd it is definitly a twin-seater with the taller tail …

… and FINALLY today the J-15 was revealed !!! :diablo:

A J-15 prototype was seen parked at the SAC airfield in May 2010 revealing its arresting hook retracted beneath the redesigned tail cone. J-15 is the first generation of Chinese shipborne fighter aircraft being developed by both 601 Institute and SAC for PLAN’s first aircraft carrier. Initially there were rumors claiming that J-15 was a new semi-stealth design based on a similar but more advanced stealth design developed earlier by SAC/601 Institute to compete for the J-20 project (see below), but this design (J-19?) turned out to be a follow-on design which is in the early development stage at SAC . In order to save time and cut cost, the aircraft is now believed to be based on Russian Su-33 in terms of structural configuration and flight control system as well as domestic J-11B (see above) in terms of radar and weapon systems. Similar to Su-33, J-15 features folding wings, strengthened landing gears, an arresting hook, a pair of small canard foreplanes to improve its low speed handling and shortened tailcone to avoid tail-strike during high AoA landing. Some key shipborne aircraft technologies such as landing/navigational systems are believed to have been obtained from Russia and Ukraine. One Su-33 prototype (T-10K-3) was acquired from Ukraine around 2001 and has been studied extensively. J-15 is believed to share many common components with J-11B, such as a similar radar, the same glass cockpit as well as the improved WS-10 turbofan engine. It can also fire a variety of Chinese designed weapons, including PL-8, PL-12 AAMs and YJ-83K AShM. Overall J-15 is believed to be in the same class of American F/A-18C. The first prototype has been undergoing assembly at SAC since 2008. J-15 is expected first to be stationed onboard the Varyag aircraft carrier currently being fitted in Dalian. The first prototype made its maiden flight on August 31, 2009, powered by the domestic WS-10 turbofan engines. The latest rumor claimed that the first takeoff from a land based simulated ski-jump occurred on May 6, 2010.

As far as I know the Su-33 has exactly the same tail as the standard Su-27. … as such these are IMO standard Flankers and no carrier-capablr birds, which have the shorter sting !

What’s so interesting in a clipped tall tail and a long sting … only the twin-seaters have them !

It’s quite usual (not only in China) to test such models in wind-tunnels to gain more experience about that certain configuration … there are also models of the F-22, C-17, F-16, …. and always some claim China want to copy them; its simply research !
