Chances are the Chinese will build a version of the Su-27KUB for their carrier.

If the pic below is real, maybe they’re working on their own variant of the Su-34

I don’t think that China will copy the Su-34 or develop their own variant, even if some here hope or fear that this would happen.

It’s quite usual (not only in China) to test such models in wind-tunnels to gain more experience about that certain configuration … similar to the Rafale model shown in the current J-12-tread.

    Suspected J-15 for CV.

    No need Su-33. 😀

Ohh come on !!! We’ve already discussed that in the new’s section.

These are simply standard fighter-Flankers – here aka J-11BH – for the PLA-NAF and surely no carrier-capable J-15 (see the standard long sting !).

The only think what’s strange is the single aircraft in the middle of the lighter aircrafts with its taller tail suggesting a twin-seater.

Some are too serious ??? … and You only try to ruin this tread.

Could You please tell us what’s so funny in posting such stupid pictures like pure fan-arts, JSF-testbeds or movie-types ???

If You can’t contribute anything substantial to that discussion … then please leave these pictures on Your harddrive.

It had bigger, folding wings, fins and non-folding tailplanes.

Was this new, bigger and improved wing ever considered for the Su-34 ??

    Accordnig to china-defense.blogspot.com site:

Those are land based operations fighters — just a new procurement J-11Bs for PLAN-AF’s .

Yes, … and I think I didn’t say it should be a carrier-capable version. Just a fighter for the PLA-NAF as a replacement (IMO) for the last J-7-regiment.

However they will give the PLA-NAF additional training to gain more experiencec with that type before the carriercapable J-15 will be introduced.

I think you are right. The clipped tails and nose resemble the early Su-33, of which China allegedly bought one from the Ukraine.

Notice the overall smaller profile when compared with pictures from Su-27 and Su-30 versions. I’m leaning to believe this is the Su-33 they allegedly bought. Is there actually three in the picture? Looking closer to the picture the next one behind looks like an Su-30, but the two after that look like they have clipped tails, too. If they were offshoots of the J-11 program that would be news.

No … these are (I’m almost sure) regular J-11B’s aka BH’s and not the carrier-version J-15 or a Su-33, since they have the same long sting.

And Yes, You are right, they are three in a row + another one in the second row more left … but the one with the higher tails can’t be a Su-30MKK since it doesn’t have the squared fin-caps.

    … could be !

But IMO the second one has clearly a much taller tail than the others and (not 100% sure) it looks as if it has the larger rudder – see on the fin’s base – than a regular Flanker.

All others have the same tails … IMO.

Most likely the first J-11B for the second operational regiment have been spotted at SAC. Regarding their lighter colour and in mind of other J-11Bs in the standard scheme besides, it seems as they will go – as rumoured – to the PLA-NAF as J-11BH.

Quite interesting, one of these machines seem to have the taller tail of the twin seater … maybe a trainer J-11BHS.

I bet a cold one that it will not be so heavily laden with control surfaces. China wouldn’t use canards and tail planes on J-XX, if its truly stealth, they would use TVC and minimal control surfaces. The fan art looks like a cross between Su-30mki and the J-10, only using twin engines. I am very doubtful it would become reality.

hy … IMO China has some fine expieriences with delta-canard configurations – maybe more than with other ones – and that canards are not a complete no-go for stealth shows also Northrop NATF proposal.

Besides that – even if otherwise stated in CHinese rumours – I won’t expect an all-aspect stealthy type like the F-22 … more to the kind of the T-50 or lower.

These pictures to me seem the closest to a reality

Hmmm … Yes and no and both don’t show the XXJ (but You may be right that they show what concepts are under consideration for the XXJ too).

The first one is from a promotional video from Xian (XAC) and some say it could show a concept for the rumoured JH-7B, which is actually a completely new design. The second one was shown in a feature about possible carrier capable fighters and “then” the proposed/rumoured configuration of the J-15 … which now seems “only” to be yet another Flanker-version.

You mean the MiG LFI, aka MiG-39, Russia’s equivalent of the F-35?

Certainly it’d comprise the low-end of the prospective Russian 5th Gen fighters.

Hmmm … As far as I know these two are completely different types. The first one was the LFI, which was planned as a smaller / lighter complement for the 1.42 similar to the F-15/F-16 or Su-27/MiG-29 combo and the second one is a nice but it is just a fan-art.

Honestly .. at least what the latest rumours from the rumour-mill says … it will be a COMPLETELY different bird !! (but maybe You are right and Mikoyan earned some money finally from its design or some of it’s engineers found a new job) :diablo:

For sure … esp. since there are so many of this Russian hyper-fighter operational ! :dev2:

I agree with You that the Su-35 might have an edge in performance and capabilities, but on the other side the J-10A is already operational since years in several regiments and also the J-11B – IMO this version has a clear edge the the “best” operational Russian AF Flanker, the Su-27SM – is operational in at least one regiment.

But the biggest problem also is this might have , since from the Chinese fighters You mentionend we have no real data in capabilities and for the Su-35 we have a lot of advertisments … also IMO not too reliable.

What’s intersting IMO, is what will happen the next years … !?

…. when will the Russian AF receive their first operational Su-35 ?
…. when will the PLAAF receive their first operational J-10B ?
…. how many J-11B will the PLAAF introduce in the same time ?
…. when will the Russian AF receive their first operational T-50 ?
…. and what has to be changed from prototype to serial version ?
…. and finally, when will the Chinese XXJ make its maiden flight ?

The J-20 looks surprisingly like a delta-canard configuration of the MiG PAK-FA proposal.

I don’t know what You se … but as far as I know that MiG-proposal is onyl some guess-work and in comparison to the J-20 I posted and the others here there are more differences than similarities:

    – the XXJ is a delta-canard …
    – this MiG-type has a chin-intake …

The only similarities I see … 1 cockpit, wings, two engines, two tails …

    ….

What’s critically missing is the turbofan engines. If the Chinese engineers want a proven supercruise-capable turbofan developed in a fraction of the time, they can reverse engineer the AL-41F and call it the WS-17.

    That’s correct … but also not !

The lack of any reliable modern turbofans is or was the biggest problem for any Chinese fighter program since the foundation of the PLAAF. However it seems that with the latest types esp. WS-10A and now the WS-13 (for the FC-1) some considerable progress has been archieved … and also the latest rumours/reports on the WS-15 for the J-20 seem promising.

To “reverse engineer the AL-41F and call it the WS-17” is – honestly complete BS – since no AL-41F was or will ever be delivered to China and secondly to reverse engineer it would take even longer than to proceed with the WS-15 or any WS-10A-based design.

Following the most reliable – at least as such expected – sources it should look similar to this …. and it is rumoured to be called J-20.
