What is that large green aircraft with a big black “something” in front of it ?

    A special EW-version of the C-1 transport.

    ….

Sorry guys, Leh trials of the LCA went ahead successfully. Engine troubles will be sorted out in due course. Astra is well on its way.

SO …. LCA is coming. Whether you like it or not.

And do note that the thing with engine and the possible number of aircraft was known a couple of months before that idiot Ravi Sharma decided to sensationalize the issue.

    ….

This is inspite of knowing that the first time is the hardest and nothing succeeds like success. That is a big reason of why I as an Indian already consider the programme as a success. Because this might take time now, but it will make it infinitely easier for us to build the MCA [no I am not buying into the bull**** that they can induct it before 2020] and then the next aircraft and so on.

There is simply NOT gonna be a Marut story anymore. [And this is what some people in their infinite wisdom/stupidity/interests want to happen.]

Sorry sir, but I think the main reason is a fundamental misunderstandig !

IMO “Scooter” is not against India, Indians or even the LCA … he is – what I would call – a pessimistic realist in sharp contrast to some of You which are (sometimes over-) enthusiastic and maybe understandable national-pride optimists.

For me … I wish the LCA all the best, I only wait for a scale model and I deem it a “huge” success in regards of gaining expertice, techbnical development … and so on but simple by its original aim to develop a Light Combat Aircraft to replace the MiG-21 for the late turn of the century … its a complete failure !

That now with all related problems in mind some say it’s still a successfull story as it will ease the development for future types is o.k … and hopefully it will fulfill its once foreseen role … but until then its late, overpriced and still not that successful as originally anticipated.

Agree, I hope they keep the Red Star. Not all of the associations are positive, but as a mark of distinction (which is what it comes down to with national markings, after all) you could not ask for a more powerful symbol.

Me too … in the German FlugzeugForum one members said … Where’s now the “Corporate Identity” ? ๐Ÿ˜‰

New Ka-52 prototypes, two different configurations shown, one with what looks like a single large EO turrent in the nose, the other with two (one large the other small) and possibly a radar. The latter also has a very comprehensive defensive aids suite: Two DIRCM balls, LWR, MAWS as well as RWR and probably a jammer.

Revised Russian Aircraft National Markings !!!

The VVS replaces the “old” Red-Star” with a new three-coloured one …

MOSCOW (AP) โ€” After more than 90 years, the Russian stars will no longer be all red. They’ll be red, white and blue.

The Kremlin-controlled lower house of parliament voted 389-2 Friday to replace Soviet-era red stars on military aircraft with ones bearing the three colors of the Russian national flag. The five-pointed red stars have adorned the planes since the 1917 Bolshevik revolution.

The State Duma made the move even though the red star was officially restored as a military symbol and brought back to the military’s parade banners in 2002. The stars had remained on the planes all along, however.

But not all things Soviet have been abandoned. During Vladimir Putin’s presidency, Russia also restored the old Soviet national anthem โ€” albeit with new lyrics.

I think this is it …. (via “ucon” from the Secret-Projects-Forum !!)

Guys, all of you are right ๐Ÿ˜€

The Russian AF is indeed VERY interested to acquire the Su-35.
Not only as an interim fighter before the PAK-FA, but as a replacement for a part of its SU-27 regiments and certainly most of its MiG-29 numbers.
The Su-35 is still undergoing tests. No way the RuAF is going to formally order an aircraft that hasn’t finished its test phase yet.

By contrast, the Su-34 has been accepted into service and a small batch has been ordered for combat eval, but there are still discussions in the AF about the real need for such an aircraft vs modernisation of the Su-24M to the M2 or GM levels and the “multirolisation” of the existing Su-25/27 fleet.

PAK FA will fly next year indeed. The procurement programme itself might be delayed, because of the reasons stated above. It’a a risk assessment after all. My guess is that the RuAF will opt for a batch of 100+ PAK FAs for the coming 12 years, with 150+ later. Not more.

The PAK FA will basically mirror the Raptor numbers and missions, as well as some Lighting missions, and will be deployed much more massively in the Far East and the Northern District than in the West/South, whereas the Su-35 will basically mirror the (big) niche of the Super Hornet and the F-15E.

The Su-35 has never been thought about as a pure air superiority fighter.
Its aim is to provide potent and effective airspace denial capability while carrying a big inventory of ordonance for AG operations if needed, and still being a capable fighter should danger come ahead.
It’s basically a AG/anti-ship missile and bomb bus on steroids, with a very powerful radar. And a decent interceptor against most of the threats Russia will face in the coming 20 years. I know it’s not the standard reading on this thread, and even on Russian threads – but that’s what the RuAF wanted. They didn’t want a “kinda Raptor without stealth”.

Specialised interception missions will remain the privilege for upgraded Foxhounds. Specialised strike missions will be given to upgraded Frogfoots and (maybe) UCAVs resembling the Skat prototype – if the eggheads in the MoD finally understand the importance of such assets.

THANKS a lot for this – and the other in the An-70-tread as well – posting.

Finally a comprehensive and realistic look onto the Russian aquisition of new combat types without the hyper-nationalistic touch.

    Thank You,

    Deino

…. Logic would suggest it’s more a matter of time and the success of the T-50.

Sorry … for me all that counts are delivered aircrafts !

It wouldn’t make a difference if they signed a contract or not, they could pull out of it any any time. They could do whatever the hell they want to do to Sukhoi (the government, that is).

Fact of the matter is, money has been allocated to this, as per the re-armament budget. When the signature is made is irrelevant. Let the aircraft finish trials shortly, then you can see how ridiculous you are with these “wha wha it’s not signed it won’t be bought ever” arguments.

All other arguments aside – most of them I agree with You – but following the “success” of all recent Russian projects “logic would suggest it’s more a matter of” fact that the FAK-FA / T-50 will be delayed again and will be produced only in limited numbers, which reach operational status even more delayed. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The fact that the VVS has said they’ll be getting them and the budget has been expanded to cope is enough for me. Understandably there have been no signatures on the dotted line but realistically an Su-35BM order seems like a fairly sure bet at some point over the next decade. The production lines are effectively open, and they’re going to have to find something to start replacing quarter-century-old early-model Su-27s and MiG-29s before the PAK FA enters full production. And given that the Su-35BM has had a flawless test program with nothing but positive impressions, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they end up being a very attractive option.

If it’s enough for for then o.k. … for me it such statements are worthless untill real hardware is delivered. (just a sidenote … how many good comments besides the industry have been made about the NH-90 introduction into the Germany Army aviation … and how many are really flying !?)

That’s the point: just take a look at the Su-34 programme … nothing but promisses … will be, will be … all along and what happened so far ? Nearly zero results !

The same with the PAK-FA … completely delayed and if it really fulfills all these hyper, super, duper promisses … For You, I hope so.

It’s nice that You are still believe in what You get told …
