….. According to the source, ….
Any clue what’s that source ???

By the way … are there any info about the remains of the T-60 ??
If I remember correctly then there were reports that at least the prototype was already under construction.

Be happy, folks ….. !
My credit card was charged for Euros 28.00 ….. so ….. IAPR 25 is arriving ….. π
Hey … good news !!
Any idea how long it normally takes after charging to delivery ???
Cheers, Deino
How authentic is that picture? The Config C drawing looks uncannily like the Mig29 while the ‘404’ design seems like the spitting image of the F16XL. Many of the other drawings look a little familiar but I do not have time to look into the details right now.
Hi plawolf … if You like I have a booklet from Taiwan in hand regarding the development history of the IDF. If everything is authentic … I can’t say for sure but it “confirms” at least this diagram and the different designs.
If You like I can send You the scans of this chapter … (need Your e-mail as Your PM-boc is full !)
So long with best regards,
Deino
From Wiki:
Doesn’t say much, now that I think about it.
EDIT: Damn, there was a pic floating around showing the detailed developmental history of the F-CK-1 Project but I don’t have it. If only I can find it…
Here is one …

O.k. …. sorry guys ! Was just a (stupid) idea !!

Thanks all for Your posts and I agree with You … but maybe I should have asked more precisely; I was thinking about if there were any follow on studies or concepts and esp. as if there are some drawings, pictures available.
I remember that only a few years after the IDF had its first flight, there were some reports on a larger and heavier βfollow-onβ project β¦ some time later also a concept drawing was posted somewhere (???) but in the end it was only one of the concepts under consideration for the IDF itself.
So … does anyone have some more …

Give all a regulated inlet and all will be ~Mach 2,3. π
…
Which could also be a usefull feature to reduce the RCS for a possible Mk.2 (or would that be a Mk.3 :D) similar to the F/A-18E/F, even if I don’t think that Mach 2,3 should be necessary.

Hmmm … I was spinning my mind a bit since that comparison to the way China has to go and in which position now both industries are and esp. the last comments led me to the point where I think there’s also another point:
Several Chinese projects – at least if succesful (and that were not many) – finally faile dbecause of changes to the original requirement. The design team was forced to re-design it to cope for higher performances only to be replaced again after the redesign. The J-9 is maybe the best example for that (even if it finally didn’t even flew), it had a good chance of success if at any point the Military Commission would have accepted at least lower performances … another example are the JJ-1 trainer, which failed because the 3-divided training syllabus was replaced by the 2-part one and also the bantam-fighter J-12, which was better performing than the J-6 … but was again canceled after the military demanded more.
I’m not exactly aware of the original performance requirements and when they were changed to what ?! – Sorry ! – but currently I have the bad feeling that if it was only procured as a replacement for the MiG-21 as planned in 1983, a LCA could have been in service already with the F404, standard available avionics and so on ….
Just my 2 cents,
Deino
Main difference is that China did not try 2 steps at a time. They used an tested engine for the new fighter and put home built engines into old fighters. Just now they are about to merge the indigenous airframe and engine.
However a failure in either project was never in danger of killing the whole indigenous project.
Yo or Nes at all … if You look at the J-9 it was the first (maybe) realistic project after the Dong-Feng fighters (esp. the DF-113) with an indigenous airframe (even if based on J-7 technology) and the indigenous WS-6 turbofan … but otherwise You are right it was always choosen between a more or less reliable engine to fit into a new airframe or otherwise !
Maybe India should have choosen a similar way.
Deino π
May be, just may be if India was isolated off the arms market like China was, may be we would a had sever indigenous fighters by now.
Hmmm … ??? That seems a good argument !
Maybe India – as it could always choose on the free market – has now to pay the price China had to pay several decades before … I’m not completely familiar with the Marut and esp. the attempts to develop a much improved version – aka HF-73 – … if I’m correct there was also – besides the twin RB.199 powered HF-73 – a single engined version under study with the Atar, the M.53 and even a Russian engine … and in the end the Jaguar was bought.
In all very similar to the line of fighter projects in China from J-11, J-12, J-13 and esp. the J-9 … which all failed by several reasons but China had to try again – this time with the J-10 – as no other possibilities were available.
If China would have allowed to buy the Mirage 2000, the Harrier and or Tornado as rumored before the Tiananmen … the would probably still manufacture military aircrafts only under license … in the same way India does as it was allowed to do so.

Why are people mentioning JF 17, A Joint Fighter Pakistan and China developed and rejected by the Chinese in comparison with the LCA. IF India wanted to just get something flying to make up numbers it would have done so long ago. The Standard demanded by the PAF and IAF are totally different.
It is usually mentiond because in the widest sense its history is similar: it is developed as a light Combat aircraft even if both have different specials … both are in about the same class of powerplant and both had or have a very prolonged and troubled history. … but in the end the FC-1 / JF-17 is ready (and PLEASE don’t understand this as a statement against INDIA).
That China went a different way and finally accepted much more help (maybe open to discussion) is here irrelevant in the same way as that the PLAAF rejected this fighter. The reason for that is not a failiure in any performances but that right another project with slightly similar requirements was already succesfull … the J-10.
So in the end and quite typical for Chine – the PLAAF changed its requirements and decided only to purchase the slightly larger, heavier and better J-10. If the J-10 would have failed the PLAAF would be the largest user of the FC-1.
So in comparison India did not have this possibility to use an “in-house” competitor … and decided to proceed with the LCA.
