Essay about Chinese and PLAAF aircraft industry.

Strange emblems on the PLAAF Su-27/Su-30? Russian?

No, these are the Su-30MKK’s from the FTTC at Cangzhou-Cangxian.

    Hui Tong has an update:

    http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e338/Hyperwarp/Hobbies/Military/PRC/Air/J-10/Ver-A/J-10_IFR.jpg

Very nice picture … sadly the number on the tail is too small to identify the unit.

Besides that there seems to be a different antenna-fit on the back-spine (I think I remember this one on an earlier bird at the CFTE) !

JH-7A with LGBby the looks of it..

I would say it’s a KD-88 with its guidance antennas on the fins.

    Just got a note ….

Apparently there were some problems with what was going to be the Focus Aircraft feature for issue 25 (= MiG-25) :(, so the JH-7 article has been moved up. 😀
As a result most of the next issue has to be re-done and that means, of course, that Vol 25 won’t be out for some time yet!

The latets info regarding IAPR publications dates this year:

VOL. 25 WILL BE ON SALE IN AUGUST.
    ….

As we are at the end of August and in mind that our US friends received their copies slightly earlier than the others … are there any news ???

What PL-11s? They’re not carrying PL-11s, they’re carrying fake PL-8s for wing ballast.

The planes, with their camouflage patterns, belong to the earlier types and I guess had this sand colored painted over their usual blues. I’m trying to ascertain if the color change is done digitally or this is a real paint over. J-10s with camouflage patterns belong to the FTTC unit, which did many of the operational testing and training, and probably works as an Aggressor unit as well given that the FTTC is home to the PLAAF’s Aggressor units.

SOC was referring to the last two links in Hyperwarp’s post … not on the shown J-10.

Regarding the sand-camo … I’m nearly 100% for sure that these are done by PS, esp in the rear area where the PLAAF-symbol is, it looks quite strange.

I will have to look on my harddrive these pictures look very much familiar …

That picture looks PSed, or at the very least, was cropped in a way to try and make it look like it was the J10 that dropped the flares when in fact it was something else. The scale is all wrong, and so is the position of the flares compared to the fighter.

Fact of the matter is that we just won’t know for sure where the flares are kept until we see a picture of them emerging from a fighter, or if there is an offical cut-away diagram that marks its location. Since niether of these things have happened yet, to the best of my knowledge, the answer to your question on the location of the flare dispensers is: Your guess is as good as mine.

You are right, that picture is a photoshoped fake from a J-10 + the flares fired by a Su-27.

But maybe this picture could help … it looks as the flare-dispensers are located under the PLAAF symbol ….

In 1970 the J-9 project was radically altered from a Mach 2 MiG-21 replacement, to a MiG-25 type pure interceptor with a double 27 requirement. That is to say Mach 2.7 and max ceiling of 27,000 meters. This was later lowered to a double 26 requirement, but still well beyond actual capability of the industry at the time and finally canceled in 1980 in favor of the J-8. The J-9 from conception was always described as a single engine turbofan fighter. This is the first time I’ve heard about a twin engine proposal.

    If you can read Chinese:

    http://calf.cn/viewthread.php?tid=29643&extra=page%3D1

Yes, that was exacly my thought or daubt, especially as far as I know the J-9 this type was only specified with one engine, one tail and a completely different air-intake … !!

So does this article mentiones directly the J-9 or only a follow on project to the J-9 ???

If the later then it could be the still rumoured and very secret J-10 heavy interceptor … especially as it looks very similar to this huge fighter model !

It would help if you could upload the text instead of just the aircraft images.

From the few lines available, it seems to suggest this is a follow on to the original J-9 project. The J-9 was a canard delta interceptor canceled after its design specs were unrealistically inflated from a F-4 rival to a MiG-25 rival. Perhaps this concept was floated in an attempt to meet the later design requirements.

The use of framed canopy windshield and wing fencing suggest this is an older concept.

Sorry, but I didn’t find more … somewhere at http://military.china.com/
Hopefully someone else have the whole text.

Otherwise Your translation would fit to the rumoured J-10 from Shenyang.

Just found … … is it just an interesting CG, a real project, maybe the rumoured SAC J-10 or just a fake ??

Looks quite similar to that huge delta-winged fighter model from the SAC-display ?
