That’s the standard fairing for the flap-hinges of a J-8 …. And regarding the yellow pint I would suppose this is one of the J-8F prototypes !

Hmm… I maybe have to agree with You but following latest reports it seems as they are finally on the way “back on track”. What I’ve heard around is that we can at least be lucky the IAPR is still alave and following a re-organisation they try to catch up with these delays.

Therefore for 2008 at least five issues are planned with no. 23 already out and Vol. 24 planned for May, Vol. 25 suggested for July or August, Vol. 26 for October and finally Vol. 27 in December. 😉

Regarding service I agree with You – I re-ordered issue 22 for a friend and it took nearly 4 weeks until they delivered, but as it’s not usually availavle in any book-shops here in Germany its maybe the only way to get them.

I believe it is customary that any announcement would come after 4 PM Eastern time (after the Wall Street stock markets close).
That would make it late evening UK time or early afternoon on the US west coast.

You may want to know where my sources are from. Well it was shown as a presentation to some HAL employees at Bangalore on the first week of Jan 2008. There were series of pictures (about 8)where they showed the yellow coloured LCA trainer being dragged on the road that connects LCA complex to the airport at about 0200 hours… IT took them about 2 hours to tug the machine to the right hanger. That was the first time a full aircraft had been tugged, on previous occasions the aircrafts were assembled at the Hanger in the airport complex.

Since the Chinese aviation industry was as lame as their tank builders then it was either built off Soviet assistance or it never happened. The Chinese leaders of that period didn’t take such risks. They wanted something simple and proven – nobody in the Chinese hierarchy would of stuck their neck out on a unique creation.

Not 100% correct …. take a look at the Q-5 ! It#s clearly a J-6- = therefore MiG-19-development but surely not based on any Russian design or developed with Russian assisance. Therefore the same is for the J-8: It started as a long-range, high-speed fighter based on (more or less) proven J-7 technology – maybe inspired by the way Mikoyan went with the Ye-152 but not necessarily based on Russian blue-prints as said by “MiG-23MLD”.

So, once again the same story with another theme ?? … no-one here denies that China received help, technical documentation from Russia, that China was a truely undeveloped country in technological terms … but not from everything You post only because once again an obscure Russian site allows to interpret that (at least no site says so) !
