I don’t know WHY !! … but it’s quite usual on the R-73 ans if I remember right I have several pictures of PL-8s without their fins … sadly I’m currently at work ! I will look later at home !

Hmmm … I think we are all wrong ! By comparing with pictures of R-73s and PL-8s without their fins I think now that this is something completely different as both missilies have their fins monted slightly in front of the rear end … here – whatever it is – is just on the end !!

Why must the fin for PL-8 be removed for dummies?

I don’t really think this is a J-8H at all, we have not seen an R-73 on a J-8II since the F-8IIM. Likely this is a prototype that may be carrying a Russian Zhuk radar for testing purposes, perhaps one of the two original F-8IIMs that may have been repainted.

The picture is definitely a find if the pic is genuine. I’m leaning in that direction that it is not a ps.

But the a J-8F as recognised by the twin wing-fences and the black radome !
I agree with You that it looks more like a genuine picture than a PS !

Actually, the missiles are dummy R-73s you often see with Su-27s in training flights.

I don’t think that these are R-73/AA-11 … for me they look like PL-8s without their fins just the same as dummy R-73s.

China To Display Missiles, Fighters At Air Show
    Agence France-Presse
    Oct 31, 2006 – 4:42:59 AM

China will use a major air show to display its military might, just weeks after North Korea launched its first nuclear test, organizers said Oct. 30.

State-owned weapons manufacturer China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) said it would exhibit a record number of missiles and fighter jets at Airshow China on Oct. 31.

The display will demonstrate “the advanced capability and level of Chinese missile weapon systems to safeguard its territorial air, sea and land,” CASIC said in a statement.

The move follows North Korea’s declaration on October 9 that it had conducted its first nuclear test, which led to sanctions being imposed by the U.N. Security Council.

Air, naval and surface-to-surface missiles will be on show at the Sixth China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, which opens on Tuesday and will run until November 5.

CASIC President Yin Xingliang said the company would also exhibit some small satellites, various unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned ships.

One of the highlights of the air show will be China’s most advanced fighter-pilot trainer, the “Shanying,” or Mountain Eagle.

The two-seat, single-engine aircraft is capable of carrying 2,000 kilograms (4410 pounds) weapon payloads such as short-range air-to-air missiles and rocket launders and bombs, and will hold daily demonstrations at the show.

The third-generation L-15 advanced training aircraft and the capsule of China’s second manned, spacecraft Shenzhou VI will also be on display at the bi-annual event.

Some of the newest Russia military aircraft are also expected, the organizers said.

However, the much-anticipated FC-1 fighter aircraft, which China jointly developed with Pakistan, will not be on display.

China’s only international airshow will this year be attended by 550 exhibitors from over 33 countries and regions.

Exhibitors include Airbus, Boeing, European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), Embraer and Rolls-Royce.

…. The J-8II had the black radome with electrostatic strips like you see on the J-8H and J-8F, but the wings only had singular wing fences meaning it was converted from an older type. ….

I don’t think that this is from an “older” type … for my opinion it’s just a bad point of viev and the first smaller fence can just be seen … the larger inner one not !

    I think that’s a standard J-8F !!!

What you mean dead? The link is up for Kommersant and then you need to type Su-33 on the Search the Archives. on the upper right hand corner.

It is not a direct link by the way. The article is available only as a pop up.

    I only got this …. 🙁

… but now I found the original text !
