Hmmm … comparint the coordinates it’s definitly Shanghai Dachang Airbase (Pos: 31ยบ 19′ N 121ยบ 25′ E) with its 16th Regiment / 6th Ground Attack Division.
But only recently planeman from the sinodefenceforum found this one …. ๐ฎ
Maybe just a JH-7 with removed wings … but why ???
Cheers, Deino
Once again rumour time !!!
Recent post on CMF with an aircraft with clipped/folding wings. Next to some JH-7s. Have you guys seen this on Google Earth? Coords are 31 18 49.34″ N 121 25 03.75″ E (posted by Zephyr106 at the CDF)
But I’m very sceptical esp. as the right wing looks errased by photoshop !
Any comments ???
Deino
If its an IL-76 crash, then it’s an IL-76 crash, not a Y-8 crash.
I honestly do not know why there are 40 people. That’s a little too much for even an AEW plane. The equipment would have filled the plane and you have less seats on the plane.
I am starting to think this is just a plain Y-8 transport carrying military personnel that is off duty, technicians, eingineers and their families. I think these are related to the Y-8 AEW program itself, but the plane that crashed isn’t the Y-8 AEW itself, but ironically, just a plain Y-8 carrying said personnel related to the AEW project.
If it has been said to be a Y-8 then I agree with You !
By the way, thanks for Your comments on the PM …. I will think about them !
Cheers, Deino
This formal announcement does suggest engineers. Some say it is the Y-8 with the balance beam, but it could also be the one with the dish. The handling of these planes can get iffy due to the weight and drag of the antenna.
Personally I think it is the balance beam plane. A gust of wind sideways can cause the plane to roll over. I never really thought of that as a sound aerodynamic design.
40 killed in Chinese military plane crash
BEIJING โ Forty people died in a military plane crash in eastern China, official media said late yesterday, confirming that all onboard were killed.
President Hu Jintao expressed his condolences for those killed in the transport plane crash on Saturday in Anhui province, Xinhua news agency said.
โThe motherland and people will never forget their (the victimsโ) heroic names and merits,โ Hu said in the first official response to the crash.
โThey have made important contributions to national defence and the modernisation of the army,โ he said.
The victims had โfirmly remembered the sacred mission endowed on them by the party and the peopleโ and had โdefied all hardships to faithfully perform their duties,โ he said in his message of condolence. Hu has ordered an investigation into the crash, dispatching a team to the site and demanding that the military draw lessons from the incident, Xinhua said. โ AFP
Hmmm … but are 40 people not too many for a Y-8 fitted with AEW-equipment ??? I don’t know how many working-stations the Y-8 AEW versions have, but 40 seem very much too high for me. …. Could a KJ-2000 be possible ???
Deino
Trident..the SMR-95 apparently caused centre of gravity problems when installed. The SAAF were also unhappy with it’s TBO figures.
Is there any other reason to increase airflow to an engine other than to increase its thrust? Remembering that this is a turbojet and therefore has zero bypass, does increasing the airflow to the engine definitely point to a re-fanning? C’mon all you engine experts out there…
Hmmm …
Did You get Your PM ???
Cheers, Deino ๐
Ok..so I take it no-one here knows anything about this. Perhaps then somebody knows something of French or SNECMA projects to update the original 9k50..I remember Deino normally took an interest in the more obscure…
Yes … and I’m alse very much interested here, but – SORRY ๐ – I have no further information !
Cheers, Deino ๐
Any body have a good line drawing of FC-1?
I think the best one is this !!!
Deino ๐
Is this CAC ????
Ohhh please guys; calm down !!
Don’t let this tread once again become a “My fighter is better than Your”-tread. If anyone would like to discuss the Sino-Indian relations once again, please start a new tread.
This one here is for the LCA !! … and as far as I can say I’m mostly interested in its current status, its future and especially in its roots !
Cheers, Deino ๐
… plain and simple: NO !!!! … it’s a GCI !
Besides that; here’s a quite funny (good music ๐ ) video of the FC-1:

Cheers, Deino
I have a pic of the new LCA with the panoramic view and stealthy features. I’ll be posting it soon but I was hoping to get some more inside material from my fellow forum members, please don’t be stingy gentlemen, we need validating evidence to show to the world what a great project the LCA is.
take care and reply back soon. Oh and keep your chin up.
Ohhh I can’t wait ! ๐
That sound very interesting ! Does that mean that there will be some airframe related modifications (“panoramic view and stealthy features” ) similar to the FC-1 04 prototype or are these for the final serial standard ???
By the way what’s the latest progress on the twin-stickers ??? When will the finally fly ??
Thanks in advance, Deino
En-route to your homeland for the airshow
Thanks a lot but is that usual business to land at Chengdu ??? … I always thought its a closed factory airport and not an “open” or public one !
EDIT: But that’s highly unlikely as I just got the info that this is not the C-17 at Berlin ! (the machine at the display is no. 96-0006 “Spirit of Berlin and not 03-3123)
Additional why flying a C-17 from the Sates via Chengdu to Europe ????

Maybe they are carrying home the secret Lavi prototype back to Israel !!!! ๐
Cheers, Deino
USAF C-17 Mega plane in Chengdu–home to the J10 and FC-1 fighter jets
Do You know WHY the C-17 visited Chengdu ????
Deino
Some very interesting older J-10 pictures (found at the CDF posted by chenium !) ๐
Any idea what’s that Il-76 version … found at the CDF (via Xinhui) ?????
Cheers, Deino
