    First launch of Idz 30?
In what way? On the Su-30 flight test laboratorium or on the T-50-8?

The new engine (izd.30) tech demonstrator had its first test firing 5 days ago!

As of now, the plan is to fit an actual engine to T-50 in late 2017 and start testing in 2018.

I am surprised that the FC-31 does not have side weapon bay’s like the J-20, was there any reason given by SAC as to why they did not add side weapon bay’s?

    Size … simply size !

These bays would be simply too large even for a PL-10.

    our sexy new Chinese helicopter
    https://sinodefence.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/1388563152_40514.jpg

looks a bit like the blackhawk. follows a line of dauphin and frelon clones, albeit some are licensed copies.

Good question – to admit – and similar to the Lavi / J-10 depending largely on the definition of “copy” !??
Here a better image + comparison to the original.

    don’t shoot the messenger

    http://www.janes.com/article/65276/airshow-china-2016-j-20-cameo-generates-more-questions-than-answers

IMO it that presentation – even if it was only a brief and surely quite lame – a two-fold message:

    1. to the own peoples to be proud of the PLAAF’s latest toy and China’s aerospace achievements.

    2. the fact alone that it was shown – just remember how long the J-10 was cancelled even if already long in PLAAF service then – is a testimony in the PLAAF’s faith in that that aircraft. Any comparison to the typical Western or especially Russian way to promote their latest toys is simply mute; the Chinese do it their own way regardless if the West thinks this brief appearance gives more questions than answers. Exactly the PLAAF’s intention.

Supposedly firm contract for 2 Be-200, and another 2 as an option, have been signed in China.

Reportedly “Leader Energy Aircraft Manufacturing Co Ltd.” is the customer … never heard of them.

..er, no. I know you can read, and my ingrish is not that bad hottie.

Its about power projection, sending out a message. Well that is what the Russians did at the MAKS.

If the Chinese do not think the same, well so be it.

So why are the J-20 flying around with no serial nr again?

Indeed … boosting something that so far simply is far from reality and IMO this “message” was more a shot in the knee (like we say in Germany) since they are promising since years and delivering nothing or at least not what they announce.

Therefore You are correct, the Chinese have their own way to handle that issue: they show it and are happy with it … even if all Western media – just look out – are telling what a lame demonstration, too slow, too heavy, too whatever … and in reality no-one knows what this type really can do.

IMO also some sort of “message”

First of all, congrat to the Chinese. Nice Airshow.

    A few questions if i may;
    1. Why can’t we see any serial numbers on those two J-20 doing flight display?

    2. And just how many J-20 prototype or pre-serial have been build and are flying at current day?
There was some reports that they have over 10 flying airframes.. if so, why not send more to the Airshow, it would send a nice message out.

    3. The Russians back in 2013(or 2015?) send four of the PakFa prototypes to the MAKS airshow, where three of them did a formation flight and the next day, the 4th prototype also did a flyby/display.
That was almost all of them.

So if China got like 10 of J-20, why not send more to the Airshow then?

Just to sort out Your individual questions, I therefore added numbers:

    1. Simply since the PLAAF or CAC no longer add any serials on them and since these LRIP aircraft were not handed over to the PLAAF yet. When they are assigned to a certain unit, then they will get their numbers … however – similar to the first J-10As delivered – they also got only a small two-digit number.

    2. Official lain an interview AVIC-president said, there are 10 prototypes build: IMO these are 2001, 2002 = now 2004, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and two static test airframes.
Concerning the next batch 00 = LRIP aircraft we have actually lost a bit the numbers, since they don’t have any numbers. But, we know images from late October showing at least two yellow ones, two grey ones and the one with the slinter scheme. Additionally there are reports about two more having already left to the FTTC … and the latest image showed one aircraft with its c/n XX0011. Maybe a hint for being already the 11. Aircraft.
And why not more on the show? IMO the fact that the PLAAF alone allowed to show two of them is a mayor surprise. Just remember how the long the J-10 was held back? As such for the PLAAF there’s no reason to show more: they showed that type – most of all as a sign to their own peoples – and since they are quite confident & proud. There’s no need to do it the Russian way with overhyping a yet unfinished product.

    3. Yes they did, since they are IMO so much eager for publicity, they fear nothing more than bad publicity and especially they are on the run for export customers; something the J-20 simply does not have to care about.

    Just my 2 cents.

You have a estimated if nothing else about the nozzles.

Thanks … so I have at least a starting point.
