Much ado for nothing. It’s an export bird and as such called the F-7A, anyway.

Sorry, that’s no explanation especially since the J-7I featured the typical para-braking chute container on the fin. As such to state “Much ado for nothing” might be either Your lazyness or if You are not interested … but that’s not an explanation.

And again you mention “regarding the numbers” … I for myself don’t have a list of NK-serials which tell me the type ?

    Could You please explain ?

A larger diameter engine has been installed in a J-20.

No, … at least not IMO !
We have already seen the J-20 with new engines and even without that mysterious painting/coating. IMO it’s simply one AL-31FN with the nozzle full open and the other one closed.

YES, and I can agree in nearly all points, but back to my question and that’s probably the most important thing !

Has this deal been confirmed ??? … or are we again discussion until noon all about nothing ?

By the way … has that so much discussed deal been confirmed in any official form, either from the Russian sales agencies or the CHinese MoD ???

To admit we are discussing this for the x-th time over and over again and at least so far nothing happened !

That’s an J-7I according to the serial.

Sorry, according to what serial ?? The number – at least for me – does not tell the type even if I know that reportedly 700-serials are reportedly J-7 and 300-serials are MiG-21F-13. But … this is a J-7 without the braking-chute on the fin’s base and as such I think this can’t be a Chinese J-7I.

To admit I know there are a few very early J-7I’s without that feature and as such nearly identical to F-13’s but then it would be a J-7 (sans suffix) and not a J-7I.

In contrast to the optimism based on a few photos, however, the fact that China has yet to succeed in developing a powerful engine for the J-20–the much-expected WS15–tells a different story. Of the two J-20 prototypes that have been made known to the public, one is powered by the Russian-made AL31FN and the other by the domestically built WS10G. The Chinese version of the Su-27SK, the J-11, is powered by the WS10A. Many observers believe that a strong incentive for China to buy the Su-35 is the airplane’s 117S engine, an AL31 derivative.

WRONG … both are powered by the AL-31FN (most likely a custom-made uprated version similar to the J-10/AL-31FN-deal once) but that’s surely not a WS-10 !

Oh I forgot about that unknown export customer Deino! Wonder when they will come out of the woodwork. Burma maybe? Or some Middle East customer like Iran possibly?

To admit I’m not sure, even if I can’t think of Iran !
My first idea about that secret customer was Egypt but given the latest political changes and the current situation I don’t think so any longer. Huitong reports that Bangladesh might be the one …

If that is the case I am not entirely surprised, I never believed the idea that it was never going to be purchased by the China Airforce.

Oh, I think that was already more or less confirmed but I’m not sure if this is indeed the mentioned PLAAF-version or even one of the aircraft destined for that so far “unknown” export customer !? … besides that I’m not sure if the engines – and that would be interesting to know if they are with afterburner as on prototype 06 or without as on pt. 01 – 05 – are already installed ?

Yes … I’m right now 100% sure but this – as well as other models – were shown during a modeling/design competition and had to demonstrate the landing of a sub-scale RC-model landing on a simulated carrier deck ! As fas as I know that was the winning design and already then said to be associated to the SAC/inst. 601 … quite funny on the same event the first model of the F-60 / J-21/31 was shown and most observers were joking about that F-22/35-look alike model.

But I don’t seen any reason why then going so muc off-topic insteda of asking about the beackground, the rumours around and reports from CHinese forums … even if this si surely not a confirmation of what it really is it makes more sense that speculation wild around if the X-47 would brig any benefits to the USN or USAF !?

Following some big-shrimps that – even if blurred – image is said to be the first prototype of the Shenyang “Sharp Sword” UCAV (said to be similar to the US X-47B). It is designed by the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and its design Institute No. 601 and was allegedly build at Hongdu. Reportedly it had its first taxi test the very same day the Y-20 had its maiden flight.
