For anyone interested in Chinese military related books…

I just found my first review 😮

And I must admit, I am simply speechless.

And for those interested, here’s an animated preview:

Wasn’t there some talk on attempts to maybe include Japan?

Interesting… however how likely is this to ever materialise as a pure British project in mind of the Brexit and after France and Germany decided to go ahead with their joint effort?

seems like the PLAN wants to replace the Su-33 clone due to mechanical issues and frequent crashing (didn’t even know this was an issue until these reports were made).
since the issue is mechanical rather than pilot error
either the Su-33 was flawed or the Su-33 copy was flawed.

seeing as how none of the Su-33 crashes were due to mechanical error (so far, it was caused by the arrestor cable of the carrier, syria attack, etc).. then logical conclusion is that the Su-33 cloning process was poor.

Or it is simply a faked BS report written in the original report by Minnie Chan from SCMP, who has awell known credibility on Chinese military matters similar to the German BILD, concerning international politics.

There are indeed some mishaps but most Chinese sources relate them to the heavy exercising and operational tempo additional to the general early state of operational readiness… and the aim to replace the J-15 is more related to its dated design and the general wish to get 5th generation fighters too …

    Oh okay my bad!

No problem, and sorry, if I was a bit hash with my reply.

The J-20 – and no other PLAAF-type – has the ability to be refuelled via a boom and also the J-20 has a IFR-probe similar to the J-10, but retractable.

    1. That particular addition of the webzine is from 2016.
    2. There is nothing that backs up your first assertion anywhere to be seen (please provide a quote from the webzine in Turkish that backs your claim)
    3. Your following assertions seem to be baseless, optimistic speculation unless you have actual official documentation.

I must admit I would rate nothing official from Turkey in regard to these countless phantasy-programmes – or should I say propaganda – as reliable.
Just look at the trainer, which was said to be nearly done, a semi-completed prototype was boosted which in the end was nothing more than a crude mock up that now again several months later looks again very much different … will be interesting, how the next iteration will look like, when president Erdogan announces the next elections.

Pardon, but from what I know it is not that Dassault enters the TFX development, but purely that Dassault Systems software will be used in the development of TFX…. in fact nothing special.

Chinese internet is going wild over it with many thinking its a new medium airlifter.
this one came from a popular site called chinchin

NO, not really the Chinese Internet, but some stupid fan-boy pages like the “popular site called chinchin”. I don’t know why all that hype. Even the original poster of these images confirmed by the c/n – just look at the post I made one page back – it is NOT the Y-30, it is plain and simple a test specimen of the Y-20 manufactured already in 2009 … this “thing” was built also at XAC and not at Shaangxi, which develops the Y-30.

I don’t know how anyone can believe that the very clear picture Deino provided is even connected to that transport aircraft in the picture.. which is quite blurry.

Simply since there were several more images posted at several Chinese forums and one guy even was so close to post detail shots … IMO anyway better than posting ps’ed fake images only to mislead the size of that bird.

Chinese Y-30. To be equipped with DSI intake plus engines, like on their fighters, drones, trainers, etc

Nope … if you look at the c/n of that bird it’s just an older Y-20 static test frame.

Looks about J-10’s size, prbably designed around the same parts.

But the J-10 is from CAC … the Dark Sword from SAC !

    So IMO unlikely.

Anyway; most surprising … and so the questions are now:
    – why was it unveiled now?
    – who are these guys and where – on what event – was it shown?
    – … is it a recent image or only now posted?
    – Is it still alive? I thought it was long dead and superseded by the Sharp Sword.

    With respect Deino,

    (1) Lack of experience does not mean Turkey cannot have such programs nor does it mean that such programs will be a total and utter failure.
    (2) Co-production and licence production of platforms are achievements in and of itself which lead to indigenous programs.

In return with the same respect … and YES, I know but my point stands:

That’s the way it goes but not with the number of projects in parallel at the given budget and even more unlikely within that mentioned timeframe.

Just look at the trainer T-X: when the first blurred image was leaked you were immediately jumping it is the prototype soon ready to fly, later it came out it was only a mock up and you replied that won’t matter since the true prototype is also close to being finished … now – several months passed by – nothing happened and it seems quite to the contrary the design was changed several times in the meantime, is still not finalised and all these announcements to see a maiden flight in 2018, flight testing ended in 2012/21 and service entry soon thereafter are nothing more than hot air.

The same with the 6t heli and even more with the new 10t heli and combat type. … these are all vapour ware; nothing more and IMO I expect either TAI concentrates on one or two projects or all will fail.
