….What was the error, and what further article ideas are in the works?
Just forgot the most important piece …

Deino 😉
Cheers Dieno! Already read the article – purchased via zinio at:

What was the error, and what further article ideas are in the works?
The error I made is a later confirmation / fix of the regimental numbers and bases:
Lot 01 (2010) – 30. Fighter Division / 89. Regiment at Datong-Pulandian – 40x1x-numbers (PLAAF)
Lot 02 (2010/11) – 19. Fighter Division / 57. Regiment at Zhengzhou – 31x0x-numbers (PLAAF)
Lot 03 (2010/11) – 8. Fighter Division / 24th Regiment at Jialaishi – 81x8x-numbers (PLANAF)… this is a naval J-11BH
Lot 04 (2011) – 37. Fighter Division / 111. Regiment at Korla – 41x8x-numbers (PLAAF)
Next in line is a report on the bomber-force.
Probably a silly question on my part, but:
What does the PLAAF call its Su-27SK and Su-27UBK (the ones imported from Russia)? Su-27 or J-11?
The ones “imported” from Russia are simply Su-27Sk & UBK … the ones producedby SAC are J-11/J-11A/J-11B !
If You are interested … in the current Combat Aircraft Monthly there’s an update report on the Chinese Flankers (even if I have to admit some minor errors regarding the regimental numbers) 🙁

Are there any external differences between c 802a and YJ 83?
Good question … here’s a reply for the same question on CDF:
Count number of bolts on the linear protrusion on the side. YJ-83 has 8 bolts, C-802 6 bolts from the front of the main fins.
can J-10 carry those?
Hmmm … at least not officially confirmed nor seen ! But I can’t see any reason against that capability. IMO the J-10 was simply certifies for AA weapons at first, followed by domb-bombs and rocket bods later … currently LGB and so on and maybe this ASM-capability will follow.
For the FC-1/JF-17 it is different since the PAF seem to have requested this.
Deino
What!?
No picture of that FC-1 with 2xC802 on the tarmac in chengdu yet?!
the forum’s standards has fallen.
Here are some more … but isn’t this a YJ-83 ???
Deino
… and even if a bit dated by now; I still like it ! 😀
You have to consider There is atleast 30% weight gain from F-16A to late F-16C. and almost 33% weight gain from F-15C to F-15SG/F-15K.
These late model F-15 are in 20ton class fighters. long life of these F-16/F-15 came at expense of huge weight increase. The older models F-16/F-15 are simply not suitable for heavier newer engines.
what Chinese are doing at most is swapping engines of light weight airsuperiroty fighter.
O.k … but that’s because both engines are heavily uprated in contrast to the original ones.
There is no evidence that WS-10 engine can deal with much heavier Su-30MK with external loads.
Here I don’t agree with You:
1. both engines are roughly the same performance / thrust, so that can’t be the same problem.
2. There’s also no evidence for the contrary ! … when it is possible to re-engine the J-11A to the WS-10A, why should it then be one to re-equip the Su-30MKK too.
Deino
Are the dimensions that different from the Al-31? Sukhoi has had no problem re-fitting “vanilla” Su-27 with more powerful Al-31FM1s for example, although that only applies to a certain point (Su-35 has slightly larger 117S).
Actually I don’t know … but I also don’t know why the early F-15/-16 can’t be reengined with PW and/or GE engines and later can do ! As such there would be some changes necessary which make that possible for the later ones – similar to the J-11B, J-15 and J-10B (maybe) – but not to the early J-10 and J-11.
chinese ws-10 is better than al-31 .come on man, everyone knows the unreability of chinese engines, their short life, and ofter mainteinens.
Only since that was so for decades doesn’t mean that it is still so. A few years ago no-one expected to develop China a fifth generation fighter … and now the J-20 is flying ! So that’s surely not an argument unless one still hopes that this situation will remain so.
the problem is not their unability to built them in large number but are the reasons that i just explained.judging of your words china can built faster a fighter than its engines:rolleyes:
In essence, YES !! They can actually build their fighters at a higher rate than the required engines (at least at the moment). And again not related that the WS-10A is a bad desig, but since the required manufacturing tollerances are much stiffer than for these old, unreliable and cheap WP-6, WP-7, … turbojets … as s result the number of finished engines up to that quality are not as high as required.
Deino
if the wa-10 engine is in production, then the recent purcase of russian al-31 just show the unreability of chinese engine.they dont wont to risk to equip all its fighter with wa-10 engines so they deversify its engines to make a balance between the safety(al-31) and stimulaty local production (wa-10)
Is it really that difficult … or once again taking only that part of the story which fits the own opinion best ??? So once again for the x-th time … even if You won’t like it:
YES, the WS-10A is in mass production … the J-11B/BS and J-15 are rolling off the production line powered by the TH … even the J-10B was testd for the first time with it … but Shenyang Lyming can’t produce enough of them and – in this point the most important thing: they are to replace older enines in already manufactured aircraft and newly produced of this old version which can’t fit the WS-10A.
As such taking the USAF’s persistant use buying/maintaining of F100-PW-100 for their old F-15C/D as a sign of unreability of a US engine is as wrong as taking Your statement. These old Eagles simply can not be re-engined (at least economically) to the latest F110-GE-129 as these early Su-27SK and J-11 cant to the TH !
Or is there still someting You don’t understand ??
Deino
Some very nice and very large photos of BF-02/-04 !

3. the Y-8 rotodome AEW numbered 9391 … for the PLANAF (if true) :confused:Deino
Seems to be simply a faked PAF-bird 😡
Some news from China … 😮
1. a J-10A numbered 95602 …could this be the rumoured 10. PLANAF division ??? (9. Div. = 8xx9x // 10. Div. = 9xx0x)
2. The FC-1 finally with the YJ-83K ASM
3. the Y-8 rotodome AEW numbered 9391 … for the PLANAF (if true)
Deino
Is this a French KC-135R in-flight-refuelling an Indian MKI ???
No-one noticed the second short trip ??? 😮
… but now she’s back home in port.
