First flight of LCA NP-1 delayed

It’s official The undercarriage of the naval version (Naval Prototype NP-1) of India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) is bulky by 400-500 kg. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which are jointly developing NP-1, is burning the midnight oil to iron out what they call “nagging developmental issues”.

Insiders associated with the programme attributed the delay in NP-1’s first flight to the undercarriage, built by HAL. “In September 2010, we observed that the undercarriage was over-sized. During traction-retraction and the undercarriage’s incorporation into the fuselage, there were many surprises awaiting us. 😮

This is a very critical piece with the hitting impact on the ship going to be much higher,” an official with HAL’s Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) said. The official said the issues related to the arrestor hook, landing gear and LEVCONs (control surfaces which allow better low-speed handling) were being addressed completely. MBDA is part owned by EADS and when India select Eurofighter and are welcomed as an ‘equal’ partner, they will set about integrating the Meteor (including the development of the compressed launcher), with the FGFA- barring any technical issues with the NO36.
As Quad said, the upper-tier of the IAF will standardise on the Meteor.

Sorry in regard to Your optimism … but is that already “fact” or again only a “wishfull-thinking” if, when and so on, especially since the Indian Flankers will also be modified for their own Astra AAM (which is surely not in the class of the Meteor).

Exactly what he was saying … and since there were some “reservations” on behalf of the Indian side that a Chinese twin-seater would be build side by side at Irkutsk, this contract was transfereed to KNAAPO, which based theit twin-seater (the MKK) on the stronger airframe of the Su-27M/Su-37.

I hope You are correct since that would mean production of Block 07 is already far away … but I’m still not convinced (… black radome ??).
