Mk II Viper from the new Battle Star Galactica with battle damage they look so nice and the Colonial Marine’s Drop Ship in Aliens would be a close second.

cheers for all that, though I did read the last bit on the RAF history, I didn’t take it to mean a new surface being laid, ‘upgrade’ is a bit ambiguous.

So before that it would have been the usual case of trundle off down the grass, would it have all been grass or would there have been some firm surfaces around the hangars, also with the bombers in the early part of the war, would they have been dispersed around the airfield or in blast pens as the front line fighter bases or were they considered less of a threat?

Once again thank you for the amazingly swift response and bottomless well of knowledge on here

I thought I’d post some figures (excluding combat) that I’ve got to hand.

The figures as they stand don’t say anything, not without further stats for number of a/c, hours/sorties flown and pilot experience, two shot themselves down? Got any info on that, though it might be for another thread?

If I was in power I’d let the Harrier and Lightning be operated by civilians, sadly that will never happen but most modern jets wouldn’t be allowed by the CAA, I have heard speculation that an old Hawk might just be allowed if the Gnat and Vixen are allowed but that again may be wishful thinking.

it was RAF Bomber Command that started boming cities for no reason

And old Picasso even painted Guernica which I’m reasonably confident Bomber Command weren’t involved in

And she can’t fly indefinately anyway, even if the funds are raised to fly her right to the end of her FI or available engine life…so they will have to do without her again at some point anyway…..

Same goes for pretty much all a/c at some point unless they are spits and get a complete rebuild, might as well ask what is the point of having any airshow?

People do things because they can and I for one hope that as long as 558 can fly she should fly.

Daft suggestion but it happens these days that some comment is left on a form and taken literally instead of being checked like this so the form would have said GZ-? and was taken as what should be put on, a precedence set and others followed.

    Stranger things have happened.

The first VC of the RAF in WWII was during the BoB and was won by bomber command, a raid on the Dortmund Ems by some Hampdens resulted in Flt Lt Learoyd of 49 Sqn, as mentioned there were efforts to hamper movement of raw materials within the Rhur area, build up of potential invasion forces, troop movements, the containment of Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen for a while before the channel dash. Mining of the North Sea and straights around Denmark/Norway, Bomber Command were pretty busy during this time.

And sorry for any repetition, not read in detail the whole thread.
