RE: Old Photos
Thanks for trying to nail down the location for me.
I have to admit I thought the T33 was the same one in both photo’s as well but its clearly different aircraft in the background !

RE: Any JP fan’s? – help needed to identify 2 aircraft
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-01-03 AT 08:57 PM (GMT)]I belive the top photo is indeed 8079M/XN492, as 8078M/XM351 is displayed in the cosford museum still wearing the tail code ‘y’
As for the second photo, W&R 14 lists XN640/9016M Jet Provost T.3A
7 FTS, RAFC, 3FTS, CFS, 6FTS, Tail Code ’99’
Hope this helps

RE: Old Photos
Thanks alot for the info Ant, I have to amit I was trying to guess what colour the hunter was painted, it would be nice to see a colour photo of it. I’m still none the wiser as to the location though.
Glad you enjoyed the pics.

RE: Walpole
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-09-02 AT 09:31 PM (GMT)]David,
I was told that it’s the B.2 XL388 that has been sold not the K.2, although I understand this is only a verbal agreement as no cash has yet changed hands, and it’s due to move in a couple of weeks (if all goes well) to it’s new home. There is a logistical problem of getting it out of the garden as the trailer it’s stood on is all seized up and the garden is well overgrown!
The guy who owns it all is currently working on the Lightning and nothing else, but at 73 years old he says it could take him forever to achieve this, hence the intended sale of a few airframes – the cockpit of the Meteor NF11 WM267 is currently on the market.

RE: Vulcan XL391 pics 2001
In my opinion the scrap value of this aircraft would be very low. The fact that it would take specialised equipment and several lorry loads to remove it, combined with the fact the materials used in the aircraft and the state of them after 20 years exposure to salt air, would have very little value once they’d been through a smelter. 10k would get you a potentially flyable ex-military aircraft, albeit not on the scale of a Vulcan.
My point is I would gladly part with 10k for this aircraft but the cost of restoring it, or at least making it safe, would be several times this. I am completely against the destruction of any aircraft of interest but having seen this aircraft in close proximity I know that paying 10k for the aircraft would be just the tip of the iceberg.
This is all I’ll say on this matter as I’d rather talk about aircraft preservation rather than destruction.

RE: Vulcan XL391 pics 2001
Peter,
I’d heard the asking price was around £10.000, which considering 391’s condition is a joke. The cost and logistics involved in getting her into any kind of safe display condition would be huge. Unless somebody acts quickly she’s going to have to be scrapped, I just hope the nose comes up for offer if this is the case, and more importantly I get to hear about it as it might be more in my price range !!!
I’ve added one more picture that shows (If you look carefully) a bit of yellow graffiti that now adorns both wings.

RE: Vulcan XL391 pics 2001
I last visited XL391 in Feb 2002, and its true shes not long for this world. I heard a rumour that 391 was bought recently by some multi millionare who plans to move her down south and restore her, this came from someone I’ve been in contact with who tried to buy her, I expressed an interest in buying her myself but the price ask for her was just silly.
The pics were taken on a very windy day in Feb 02, in one picture you can see a piece of skin hanging from under the left wing, on the next pic notice the same skin had ripped off and fell on the ground such was the high winds, I witnessed this and felt helpless. I only hope the rumour that I’ve heard has some truth although I find it hard to belive she can be moved at all in her preasent condition. Also she does have grafitti over the wings in yellow spay paint, but I couldn’t elevate myself to read it, probably some mindless dribble anyway.
