Were there any Eagle Sqn members on the original raid and how many will be on the remake? 😀 😀 😀

Hollywood rewriting history again I feel.

    Mark

Having had personal experience of Hollywood remakes having hired my Spitfire replica to Michael Bay for the film Pearl harbour I only prey that Mr Jackson is 100% more interested in fact. Michael Bays portrayal of the Battle of Britain had as much fact in it as the Sunday Sport. My feeling is that the current politically correct Americanised world in which we live will prevent a true version of the truth. We live in hope!!!!!!!!!!!:)

My latest spat with a film and you’ll probably all laugh was the new pirates of the Caribbean, I know its just a fun film but seeing a British 98 gun First rate ship of the Line, sunk at a single pass by a couple of mangy pirate ships without returning a single shot and then the whole British fleet turn tale and run was too much to bear. Any Pirate that came within half a mile of such a magnificient Ship or even a frigate for that matter with an 19th Century British crew would be a foolish boy.Why does Hollywood insist on making us Brits the butt of all their films surely they can make a good film without insulting our ancestors. Nelson must be turning over in his grave.

To regulate the pressure i was going to just add a pressure cap from a car header tank, weld it and the fitting straight on top of a header. We just don’t have a lot of clearance above the heads or room in front to mount a decent size tank. I figured that if its lower that the head outlets the tank would flood (gravity) Would it be ok to just to fit a small tank and let the coolant leak out through a pressure cap??. Ten minute runs will be the max probably more like 5. Its going to burn £40 of Petrol in Ten minutes and we’ll all be deaf by then anyway LOL. 🙂

Well after great thought I sold it to fund another project, but it went way under what I wanted so its a bargain, I was offed that price just for the seat but there ya go.

    49 watchers, only 3 bidders.
I would of put a reserve on it and if it sold it sold.

The new project is still missing the cash so I will be flogging lots more very soon.

    Hello Colin

It may have done better listed as aircraft parts, worth rembering if you sell anything else. As a dealer I would have bid more than that price but didnt see it. Listing in the right place is crucial . Saying that Ebays strange one minute its through the roof the next its down. Anyone remember the Lancaster panel that made £10,500. I bought it six months later for £3000, if i put it on ebay (which I would’nt do) i bet it wouldnt make £1500 at the moment.

Well done indeed. I havent posted for a while been busy as you can imagine. We have finished the cooling system oil and fuel tanks are about to be fitted next week, all the prep work for that is done. I hope you like you U/C leg 🙂
Need all the help i can get with the paint and marking colours. I have found one in a book by E B Morgan and Edward Shacklady. There are quite a few kits that might yeald up a paint match but which one to truct, here are a couple of examples that look totally different shades. You will get your go in her this Summer Ben, bring your ear plugs::diablo:

Above is a link to Spitfirespares showing the Spitfire undercarridge leg which arrived in the post this morning. Cheers Graham.

Its got a some numbers on it 62607 and 1303 , doea any one have any details.

What should I do, leave it as it is or clean it up paint it ect.

Nice to have a big lump of spitfire either way:)

Glad you liked the leg ,havent posted for a while been locked away in the workshop. The Spitfire rep is really progressing and will be run in public this summer. We are still looking for details on the The Spitfire Mk VIII “Grey Nurse” paint. I have a picture in the Spitfire bible By Eric Morgan and Edward Shacklady of a Shark Tooth spit from the same Sqd . Is it safe to use this to match the colours???, its the best quality image i have as PC ones are unreliable for matching.

    Cooling systen fitted

I have now finished the cooling system. At present I
just have the tank in the rear but will fit another system to rads in the wings at some
stage. The only thing that is troubling me is the header tank. Does this need to be above the head outlets? and how big.
We have reversed the flow in the carb manifold. The front head outlets flow into the carb manifold and the rear head outlets along with the outlets from the manifold run back into the tank.
How big a header tank do you we think we need????

    Thanks Moggy

If I was Bill Gates I would have a fleet of RAF Wartime aircraft including at least one full squadron of every MK of Spifire, all on an original fully restored wartime airfield( would need a very large one). How much would that cost??? , maybe even Bill Gates could’nt manage that.:)

Does anyone know who is doing the restoration for Paul Allen?

    Thanks

I can see why the colour scheme of 457 Squadron appeals with the shark mouth and there are some good looking 152 Squadron aircraft in Bengal but as yours is based in the South of England would 145 Squadron ZX- or 417 RCAF AN- in Italy not be more suitable.
I have voted on your page.

I have to go with the most votes, appreciate the comments. Would like to see some more entries. That Grey Goose is a very good looking Spit though.

In case its of interest to you I noted when reading the Ducimus Classic book on the Spitfire by Peter Moss he says the MkVIII had a 10’9″ prop and that the two bladed prop was only on the Mk 1 up to airframe 178 in the K series. I thought that you already had a 4 bladed prop but I suppose it may only be galss fibre and suitable to be powered!

Yes he props glass fibre would break into bits in a second. Our Props are just over 8Ft but should look OK. Four bladed Spit props are way out of my league so his one has o be a compromise. Plus of coarse we are missing allot of BHP so a slightly shorter prop helps there.

    Cooling

Have fitted after much deliberation a 50 gallon tank in the tail. As long as it keeps her cool for 10 to 15 minutes will be ok. Going to have attachments to connect intercoolers when the wings are on. The old 5 gallon Jerry can in front of the main tank will be connected as the expansion tank. Going to reverse the flow in the carb header rather than blank it off completely. Going to remove the two into one pipe shown at he back and run three feeds back to the tank in the tail. One from each rear head outlet and one from the rear of the header. The front end of the header will be blanked off so the water comming out of the heads at the front will flow back through the header.
The cooling drawing Peter listed was invaluable thanks! We will be connecting everthing up next week, oil and water. 🙂

The Canadians (oh forgot to say that Graham’s grip is Canadian)….used spade grips in Hurricanes and Harvards….early Harvards still had the Bowden cable ‘guide’ attached….later these were ‘shaved off’ the 2040 casting for pure Harvard use….later 2242’s were fitted that had castings that were already modifed to remove the guide…..if anyone is suitably sad i could post phots of all the types, tho that would show how sad I am!!

When you say early do you know what date this Grip is likely to be?ie when the 2242’s were introduced? isnt 2040 the Hurricane number also?
