Junker’s comment is not far short of the mark I would say.

    Edit:
Actually Nige says that the worthless coment wasn’t aimed at him but at David Coburn. Also a UKIP MEP

UKIP MEP, I think that’s an oxymorinic concept, if such a word exists…..

Seems the last polls show that leaving EU is losing popularity

    Pro EU, yes, anti-democratic, no.

On a personal level, the only politicians who truly ‘represent’ me in the sense I voted for them are the MEP’s for my region as they are detemined by PR.

Being in the EU restricts the UK’s ability to form international trade deals

And your evidence for this is……..?

    I suggest you read this:

, but don’t appear to be pushing through any legislation in their own parliament to fling open their country’s borders to migrants.

    Moggy

That may well be because it is not one of their devolved powers

Who necessarily withdrew when the Romans left. They wouldn’t have felt at all comfortable with the native Celtic Brits who would have seen them as the detested occupiers and would have been breathing down their necks.

Many of the ‘natives’ along the area of the wall were scots who (almost certainly)originated in Ireland and who had invaded in the period of the roman occupation, who didn’t necessarily get on well with the Picts ( who were celts and probably came from what is now scandanavia, although this is disputed) or the Strathclyde British ( who were also Celts, but probably from what we now call Cumbria and the Borders) so it wasn’t just the Romans who were immigrants. The Celtic tribes were notoriously suspicous of each other.

Calling people little Englanders because they do not want infinite immigration is deeply ignorant.

    definition of Little Englander

“Little Englander” is an epithet applied in criticisms of English people who are regarded as xenophobic and/or overly nationalistic and are often accused of being “ignorant” and “boorish”. It is sometimes applied to opponents of globalism, multilateralism and internationalism; for instance those who are against membership of the European Union.

    I rest my case

    Edit:
I took a qualification in British and European history in the 18th and 19th centuries so I am very well aware of the original context of the term, I was using the more modern, pejorative, understanding

At least that’s the way it seems.

Perception is everything agree, but if you actually counted those speaking another language compared to English the true number is likely to be lower than you think. If you are tuning into other languages they stand out.

In the 2011 census, fewer than 0.5% of those resident over the age of three cannot speak English
92% used English or Welsh as their main language, and of the remaining 8% 79% of those could speak English well or very well

Whether they choose to use English when speaking to another native speaker of their own language in the UK is entirely up to them.

It won’t surprise anyone, but I’m with Moggyc and charliehunt on this.

I am ashamed of our governments’ response to this, it belittles us all.
For those who maintain they are proud to be British, this is not what I believe the British values of tolerance and fair play are about, and our standing in the world which Little Englanders think so important is diminished.

P.s completely off topic, John, do you own a green Morgan?
