Had a message from Kalina, she is Len’s daughter and will be logging on. If your contact has access to Facebook, she said to send her a message via there…
Don’t know either of them but there are 3 Kalina Perry’s on Facebook. One of them is a young lady in a light aeroplane, wearing a headset…happy to send her a message if it helps?
The dusty and uneven strip makes it look far worse than it actually was. I’ve done far worse in the Cub!
Paul Morgan’s Sea Fury overturned tragically killing him about 10 years ago. I believe the aircraft is under restoration in Sweden.
Ok, so it’s only a Sea Fury wing but I still can’t believe I got to do this…
WJ288 has a Wright 3350, developing out about 3000Hp. Her canopy was custom built and is 18 inches longer than the standard version.

I tend to agree that the US-tweaked Sea Furies don’t quite look right, but if it keeps them in the air, I’m all for it!
A few more from Peter Taylor from his early fifties career days
Some more of WJ288
Her original (and very seized) Centaurus is in the background of the hangar shot and I’m in the back in the other one 😎

I was supposed to be in Memphis next weekend taking more photos of this beauty…instead I’ll be spending a few days in Cheltenham Hospital with a corneal ulcer 😡
What’s the latest then? Are all the mods and maintenance done? When do the test flying/permit/DA renewals start? Anything confirmed on the display list yet? Is she spending the summer at Brize again?
It’s an amazing privilege. I’ll need surgery to have my grin removed 🙂
..and if anyone knows where I can get some jury struts for WJ288, I’d be pleased to hear from them…
I wouldn’t rule out some undercover storage being available, certainly in the short term. The point I’m making is, I’d rather see her preserved than scrapped. I have access to a secure site, with no charges, possibly with some cheap transport.
I have a personal interest in the aircraft, having been a regular at the Southend museum as a kid. I would have some time to dedicate to ‘care and maintenance,’ a degree of common sense regarding mechanical things, albeit with no specific restoration experience, but I cannot justify spending anywhere near £4k on the project.
The majority of the Southend exhibits have survived and if G-XX is faced with another 20 years outdoors or a life as pots and pans, I know which I’d prefer to see!
