From reading his web site he seem to be talking about being under suspicion of using his aircraft to smuggle drugs…
I wouldn’t consider going to any airshow these days in the car – I always go on my motorbike. I was out of East Kirkby on Sunday within ten minutes.
They are on the shelf in your local Home Bargains store. I picked one up yesterday.
I believe that all Lancasters were capable of having dual controls fitted but during the war non ever did so for operational reasons as already discussed.
It first glance it looks remarkably like a very early type of clip-less bicycle pedal.
Wrong link I think (unless I’m missing some obscure joke!!).
It seems to be getting more and more common for air shows to be selling out in advance of the event similar to pop concerts. Another example of this was Biggin Hill earlier this summer. Just wondering if this is now a sign of things to come? Like others no doubt I always made my decision to go to an airshow the day before dependant on the weather. Perhaps the less airshows nowadays means more demand for those that remain.
I’d imagine that’s why they much prefer to get the money in upfront then regardless of the weather they potentially sell all the tickets.
Hmm, that’s a bit of a sweeping statement. Up here in Norfolk, strategies are being sought to keep small schools open owing to falling rolls, and we have no shortage of land on which to build housing.
What we really need is to find a way to make the nation less centred on London and the home counties, which in this day and age should not only be possible, but relatively simple.

I’m in the west midlands and all the local authorities around here have large shortfalls in their housing provision hence they are tending to approve schemes that would have been rejected a few years ago (I work for an architects practice).
The developers will have to pay substantial Section 106 monies to the council to fund additional school places so that shouldn’t be an issue.
Sadly there is a huge shortage of housing in this country.
I’m not even going to take my camera Moggy. As you say you’d miss the reality of seeing the aircraft and just end up taking the same rubbish shot as 5000 others will get.
Are you a Sub Brit member by any chance?
I like to see well presented information boards about each aircraft with information about the actual aircraft I’m looking at. Laminated A4 bits of paper that have been rain soaked don’t really say to me that the exhibits are being cared for.
I visited my local museum on Sunday even though I’ve been there many times. I feel I’m helping them along by paying my £3 to look around. There were lots of helpers around but very few information boards in place. Only the “star” aircraft were receiving any attention with many of the others looking little better than derelicts.
Happens to the best of them sometimes:

Interesting web site especially as I was involved in the restoration of G-ALIS (VH-BQR) when I lived in Perth a good few years ago now.
