    1. Does France allow female combat pilots?

Yes. There are already female combat pilots in France. The first and most famous one was Caroline Aigle (what a name) who reached the rank of Capitaine and died from cancer some years ago, becoming something of a national icon…

    2. What would be the most likely replacement for the Alpha Jet as a trainer and “hack” for fast jet units?

Once upon a time there was a “program” called “Eurotrainer” that was supposed to answer this touchy subject. Since it seems it deep coma, this question is best left untouched within the AdlA, if you want to keep your career’s evolution’s chances…

    3. What is the “eye” symbol (it looks like an eye with eye lashes or a setting sun) usually stenciled on the side of the airframe under the cockpit?

Huh ? I really don’t see what symbol you are referring to… 😮

    4. If France had to move combat aviation assets (Rafale, M-2k) into the Caribbean, how many aircraft would the civil airports on Martinique and Guadalupe be able to comfortably support? Are there additional bases in Fr. Guyana?

About the civil airports in Martinique and Guadelupe’s capacity, I don’t know, but they are rather large and Boeing 747 -capable, so…

About French Guyana, there is an airbase named “Cayenne-Rochambeau”, which is a strictly military asset…

The only confirmation I had was about the two outer wings hard points which are wired and ready but not cleared for use because the AdA doesn’t need it for the moment.

    That’s interesting, thanks a lot, arthuro! 🙂

:(Funny thing this comes up today seeing that the French Navy cut 9 of the FREMMS from the program :rolleyes:

And abandons the cruise-missile capabla AVT version!!! 😡

As for “rebuilding the MN”, I’d advise to scrap about 80% of the existing vessel and rebuild it from scratch…

plus there is a twin-seater available (which is not the case currently with the F-35).

Note that a Twin-seater version of the Rafale M (known as “Rafale BN”, if memory serves) had been planned, then cancelled for budget reason.

It was “simply” Rafale M fitted with the Rafale B’s cockpit. It would have retained the same operationnal capabilities that the single-seater, although with a reduced internal fuel capacity…

The capability to LOAL the MICA IR will be available on Rafale F3 and is not included in the F2 weapon system.

Yup! But the French Navy should operate 16 Rafales F3, within a year, that’s pretty close:

Well, that’s indeed a good question. I, myself, wonder if it would still be possible to get relatively modern and inexpensive jet fighters.

For now, I can think only of the Chinese/Pakistani JF-7 Thunder, the HAL Tejas or the possible derivation of a fighter aircraft from the Korean T-50…

Speaking of western designs, the last one to have met these requirements seems to be the F-20 Tigershark…

Ho my!!! I’ not qualified to tell if you design is possible or pure fantasy, but I love it!! I know it will never be built, but I LOVE it!!!! 😮

Question: would you add some MICA VL CIWS, just in case ?

Another critic: I think there are not enough Helos. Why not a Moskwa/Jeanne d’Arc- like helicopter carrier with otherwise the same equipment/weapons ?
It would have the same capabilities, but could carry up to 14-15 helicopters and 300 commandos. This would make it an even better command ship for ASW Task forces and amphibious operations. But I think this would require an increase in size up to 20,0000+ tonnes…

Anyway, that’s a good stuff you made here, congrats! 😎

I once saw an F-106B blast a UFO out of the sky. (Starman, 1984)

Really ? I seem to recall, that there are indeed F-106s taking off, but the aircraft that shots the missile was a F-20 Tigershark…

One piece of information in an earlier answer stated something that I knew to be wrong i.e that the pilot was in the front. The observer was in that position! My source was ‘Aircraft Annual 1958’ edited by John WR Taylor. An article by Air Marshall Sir Robert Saundby entitled ‘The Future of Airpower’ with the only illustratian being of a Potez 75 which it states as being ideal for ground attack in a local war armed with missiles, rockets and machineguns.

Huh ? Well, that’s interesting, thank you. I will check if I have something about this. As I said earlier, all that I stated was from memory, and I read the article a loooooong time ago, I’m sorry… 😮

There actually were two prototypes, the first one dissappearing in the midst of time. The second one, with a closed upper cockpit, crashed in September 1958. By that time it served as a personal liaison/hack aircraft for general Redon. So, albeit unofficially, it did see some military service.

    Here is No2.

Thanks for the precision, Arthur. 😉

Good news for the French Forces…

Well… in the good French bureaucratic tradition, if they say so, that’s only because they will announce exactly the contrary within a few weeks. Anyway, I cross my fingers, but won’t hold my breat about it…
