    I regret mentioning Lewis Page, as it seems to have caused the moderator to do a bit of a clean up and that was not my intention.

    No it’s my fault as I cannot see the name without saying what I think of him.

    I got it from that vid. Where they got it? Dunno. At leat some stuff is visually verifiable from CG.

    Maybe but that is concept art, therefore it’s not set in stone and most of the people that have followed the project could tell you that much of the armament info is clearly wrong i.e. Type 26/FSC is not, and never was going to get PAAMs.

    @Witcha
    I’m not talking about the Type 26 missiles, those haven’t been ordered, and so can’t be reduced to save money in the near term.

    No it was an article IIRC. It seemed fairly reasonable as it was around the time the MoD was trying to reduce the numbers of other types of missiles being procured. If I get a chance I’ll send them an FOI request and we can get a certain answer 🙂

    Well they have definitely used Aster 15s from Longbow and I’ve had it confirmed from an MOD personnel that we bought both.

    @Wanshan

    mW is milliwatts. MW is megawatts. Also, PAAMS is very vague unless they specify Aster 15 or Aster 30. Since IIRC the Aster 15 buy was axed, this would have to be Aster 30, unless they are going to go back and buy Aster 15 too. It would also be interesting to see if they are suggesting the strike length Sylver.

    This seems to be a common misconception, I’m not sure where it comes from but I’d guess it’s source is a forum. UK has not axed Aster 15 it bought both, and in fact some of the test firings from the Londbow barge used Aster 15s.

    It does also say that the first airframe BK-1 will be delivered to the UK next year, whereas there seemed to be some intimation in the forum that it might stay in the US?

    Bomberboy

    There are various ways of intepreting that though.

    Lewis Page will at least be happy if they are truly going to fit PAAMS and CAMM on the same hull, as he has banged on about how a frigate without both point-defence and area-defence missiles is dangerously exposed before now – it appears to be one of his many pet peeves 😀

    FLAADS isn’t really a point defence missile system though is it, it’s just a short range missile system same as Aster 15 (but supposed to be cheaper). ***removed by moderator***

    I’d like to know where this information came from, about half of it looks like complete bunk.

    You sure about that? last I had read BAE wanted to get rid of it but MOD were very keen for it to stay.

    It will be a shame if it is the case as the T26 would starting to look very much like a warmed over T23.

    But the RN has a history of just building new ships instead of updating older Hulls with new weapons, of course in this period of crammed budget updates are cheaper then new build.

    Type 23s are going to be updated with new weapons (although weight will aslo have to be removed because there isn’t any growth margins) which will then go to new build Type 26 hulls built in teh 2020/30s.

    Just out of interest, what do the members who are critical of the Type 26’s planned weapons fit think it should have?

    I also wouldn’t mind hearing this, off the top of my head the only thing really missing is a vls for LACM (Tomahawk or Naval Scalp)and we don’t actually know that for fact anyway (although it’s certainly probably).

    I think it is time for the RN to go down the extended range and precision guided munitions route either with the 155mm Mk8 gun (what happened to the prototype?) .

    It got canned, MOD decided to spend the money on something else even though costs were allegedly very small.

    It bloody well should be if it’s going to displace 5500 tons! :p

    That’s not exactly a great deal bigger than a Type 23.

    excuse me for my non-naval knowledge, but is this platform the sort of thing they might look to host some Novel Air type UAV/UCAVs on?

    I know this image shows a T45, but how does the potential hanger/landing area compare?

    A very significant force multiplier in my view….

    I would expect a T45 and T26 to have a virtually identically sized flight deck.

    5500 tonnes is the figure being talked about.

    Whether it’s common or uncommon it’s still a great photograph.
