As I posted on WIX, I believe this is the Jack Taft collection in Michigan. Not really lost, just lesser known. I know he has a Yale, P-400, and a PT-19. No idea on the P-6 though.

Wow! Great photos! Not often you find stuff like that.
So what can we make of the Canuck Hurris with the rockets? Canadian XII’s were essentially Hurricane II’s with the 1,300-hp Merlin 29 were they not?
Were these Hurris using rockets opertionally against the Germans or was this just for training?
The RCAF Hurricanes were basically IIs with Packard built Merlins. (not sure of the exact Merlin type.) The rockets used at 1 OTU were just for training.

The Questmaster guy is from the U.S., but I think he sold out his B-24 stuff to the Yankee Air Museum near Detroit. I’m not sure what the plans are, but they have acquired quite a few B-24 parts.
Jim
XIIs carried rockets for training purposes with 1 OTU. See about half way down here for a picture:

AirJim,
Presume you have seen the photo in post 33.
Yes, at one point I had a copy of the photos of the whole landing sequence. Sadly I can’t find them. I knew the pilot that turned it into the swing wing Varsity.

It ended up bellying-in in the southwestern States and was then cobbled-up for static display.
WJ948 which crashed at West Texas Airport in 1983. I’ll try to dig up my pics of it.

To return to the original question, not so very long ago there was a Fury project (ex-Iraqi AF), largely complete, for sale at the former Polar museum in Minnesota, via Courtesy Aircraft in Illinois. There were photos of it on Courtesy’s site at the time and it still wore its Iraqi paintwork. Another, possibly Tallichet-owned, Baghdad Fury project was at the MAPS museum in Ohio for a time.
Polar/Fisk project was sold to Dan Vance of CA
Tallichet/MAPS project went to Sanders for restoration

Rob,
I was speaking of the second airframe. I know it is just in storage, but it would be nice to see it become an active project someday.
🙂

I for one am waiting for Mike VadeBonCoeur (Midwest Aero Restorations) to get his hands on a Corsair. His P-51 restorations are legendary, and he’s been biting at the bit to get an F4U in his clutches. When that day comes – look out. 😎
Then he should get to work on the one already on site. (Or has it moved on…)
🙂

Mark 12
However, Lysander RCAF 2364 now reported at BAHAAT has previously been described in preservation listings as being held by the CWH at Hamilton as a source to help rebuild their C-GCWL. So when did Eric obtain this Lysander if it is RCAF 2364?
The FCWH in New York did indeed have parts of two airplanes, so it makes sense that they would have disposed of the second plane along the line. I don’t remember the ever seeing the second airframe back at Hamilton when 2363 moved back from New York in the mid 1990s. Btw, it is interesting that 2364 was a parts ship for both the CWH and Brooks restoration projects.
Speaking of Lysanders…what is the ID of the second airframe with Sabena? And is the airplane at ARCO the former N3093K?
Thanks,
Jim
Good point. Mr S.
A relatively standard fit on CanCar Hurri XIIs. Some had them removed, but I think they were fitted at the factory to all. Anyone know?
JDK,
They were a standard fit on Canadian built Hurricanes. There are very few pictures of RCAF Hurricanes without the glare shields.
What confuses me is the few RCAF Hurri XIIs with spinners. Most RCAF Hurri’s few with a spinnerless Hamilton Standard prop. However, a few did carry spinners over the Ham Standard prop. Were these unique to Canada spinners or RAF style spinners?
Btw, Whereatt has flown the Hurricane, but his strip is very small and as Roobarb said I guess landing is interesting…
Jim
I remember reading an article when Al Rubin bought Vampire 17072 back to Canada that it appeared in a Bond film. Anyone know which one?
Jim
Was’nt that then remade by speiberg as “Always”?
No “Always” was a remake of “A Guy Named Joe” with Spencer Tracey.
I really enjoy Captain of the Clouds…but then I am a RCAF fan. I think it is one of the best aviation movies out there.
Btw, what does Mr. Jackson’s aviation collection consist of. I’ve heard of one or two WW1 planes, but just what does he have?
Jim
The CWH Lysander has ground run, and there was a report in Aeroplane Monthly indicating a possible flight this (northern) Autumn, but I understand it will probably be longer than that before it flies as there is a lot to be done still. It’s a magnificent job though.
Kermit’s hasn’t flown since it arrived in the USA. It’s not ‘airworthy’ in any meanigful sense now, though it could be made to fly.
Also in the USA, the NASM Lysander was airworthy had had been flown by owner Don Brookes for many years before it’s donation. It’s now dangling on a string in the new Udvar Hazey display.
There is another sleeper in Canada…that being Harry Whereatt’s C-FVZZ. It sure looks airworthy, but I have no idea if it has flown.
Oh and many years ago (1967) the Rockcliffe Lizzie flew too.
Jim
then either POF Mk3 which I think is keep in airworthy status or Mk3 RCAF 17031 which I undertsand is flying please correct me if I’m wrong.
Rob,
17031 is the Comox bird and really isn’t a flyer anymore. My understanding is the POF Mk. III is static.
