Had a wander up there after work this evening. Saw the Matadors make a rather interesting arrival but couldn’t get the camera trained on them in time. Sally B is parked up by the road and the Spitfire, Hurricanes and Buchon are on the E-W runway. The Tornados appear to be parked up on the south side as their tail fins were just visible in the distance.

The paint schemes reflect two of the key squadrons based at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain period. The Hurricane being a 32 Squadron machine used by Peter Brothers and the Spitfire being a 92 Squadron machine used by Geoffrey Wellum.
If I remember rightly 32 Squadron had been sent north for a rest before 92 Squadron arrived at ‘The Bump’.
Nice to see some relevant schemes on the gate guardians at this famous ex-fighter base.

You obviously haven’t seen the one chasing it 😉

The article that Clive James refers to is this one:
That is a very well written piece from Mr James – must remember to look at it or catch the aural version on Radio 4.

Not the first time it has happened up our local high street – a patient escaped from the same place some time in the early 90’s and nearly killed a pupil at the nearby junior school where my cousins were at.
With any luck they will catch her soon.

Isn’t there usually a lull in the wind around dawn and dusk? Or is that one of those old wives tales?

This is probably as near as you will get in that respect 😀

What appeared to be a Bf108 Taifun and later on a Mustang over Tonbridge this morning. Plus a bi-plane aerobatics aircraft. Quite a morning!

It does seem a bit risky having 300 microlights crossing the Channel in a 2 hour window.
I was going down myself to watch the events from the National Trust propery on the cliffs above the ferry port, but a cold means the day would have been a nightmare 🙁

A Hercules flew over Biggin Hill around 6pm.
