    I did contact that company and got the following reply:

    We do not possess drawing A10087 online in our database.

    This looks like it’s an RE8 oil tank with the filler on the other side.

    Not a FE2B or D oil tank.

    Also Drawing no A10088 are RE8 oil tank parts as per the parts manual.

    So, they appear to be uncertain exactly which model it is for.

    Any other suggestions or comments?

    Thank you all for your help.

    To Summarize, it is an oil tank, made by the Royal Aircraft Factory, for either an FE2D or an RE8 (or perhaps other aircraft of that era), and dates from the latter half of WW1.

    I suspect that there wont be much interest in it due to the small number of such planes left now, but it is certainly interesting. (And my field is vintage electronics, particularly WW2 era.)

    That seems to me, a sensible suggestion.

    Although I know next-to-nothing about aircraft, the capacity of a tank that size is only about 7.5 gallons which doesn’t seem much to me if it were for fuel.
