If Russians could get support from Iran for stopping Chechen rebels an engine swap was cheap in comparison to further military action against the terrorists. But the real point on my mind was to bring up losses of F-14’s to the Syrians. These carcasses were bombed to oblivion, but probably not before something got carried off.
161149 (VF-31) crashed into Mediterranean off Lebanon 11/11/1983. Crew ejected safely and were recovered.
159024 (VF-31) crashed into Mediterranean Sea near Cyprus while on low-level CAP Nov 8, 1983.
If you are referring to claims of F-14 losses on 4 December 1983 then they come from Russian and Ukrainian media reports. They claim F-14s on this date and several others downings such as E-2s and A-6s. Can you match up F-14 losses on December 4 1983 to bureau numbers? Explain how the F-14s claimed lost in Syria/Lebanon were covered up? How are they still covering up the losses of the missing F-14s?
Neal, nice set. Great airshow and lovely weather too!
Nice set Brian! Thanks for posting!
Some more Fantastic shots there:cool: Just wondering why do the press when ever they say the Harrier they always say ageing Harrier? ithought the GR9 is the newest verison?
Regards
James
Thanks James. Probably because most of the press believe that the Harriers in service today are airframes that served during the Falklands.
This is one of the best ever sets of low flying images posted including those I see on low fly net.
With the amount of crew interaction now happening I am beginning to think of a coral reef where big predators turn up to be looked after by small cleaning fish, only in this case they turn up to have a pic taken !
Thanks. Much appreciated. I would personally like to see no crew interaction. Sometimes, I feel, that it ruins the shot. That aside, it must be fantastic to be a back-seater on a familiarisation flight and go knife-edge through that pass?! No wonder they go wave daft in the back seats of some of those Hawks!

Typhoons, Tornados and Hawks from the eastern side. Not very good for photography as they normally bank to starboard to enter the pass.

A good video of a trip in a Hawk with footage at low-level
Nice work. I do like that Sea Hurricane shot. OW is a great little venue. No ladders/windbreaks etc. It’s great when you get perfect conditions for the Old Edwardians!
according to a 1997 issue of JDW,article about iranian aerospace, the iranian plan to reengine some of F-14 and F-4 with russian angine and avionic system, particulalry the radar.and russia admitted they managed to obtain 2 F-14
‘Russia’ ? Who in Russia said that? Do they have the quote specific to a named individual? Parts of from downed aircraft in Iraq? If you can provide a direct quote of the article then it might put it into perspective?
Nice work, Gary! Thanks for sharing.
Arrh, thank u soooo much!
That IS what I desired, could u please tell me the context of this video, such as when, where the Typhoon did this maneuver? by casual or prepense?
The incident took place on 15th July 2005 at RAF Fairford, UK. It happened on one of the practice displays before the Royal International Air Tattoo. The pilot reflew the practice routine a few hours later.
Image and details here
So i guess the FAC/spotters are back home by now…
Probably after a bit of R & R in Turkey. Back home in time for tea and medals!
I had to lay down for this one because I would have fallen down otherwise.
What suprises me is the bids.
Imagine the paper trail when the Ministry of Defence finds out! :p

Cell-phones on Flight 93 could not have worked as claimed.
Yes they could. You honestly believe that every call was faked? There is also the factor of how many people and groups simply quote incorrect media sources that use flight phones for cells and vice versa.
