There has been some footage shown today on Sky News of a U.S. airstrike in Iraq. It shows UAV footage of a targeted anti-aircraft team firing a large calibre weapon from the back of a truck. The team is then targeted as they attempt to hide in a tree line. I don’t know if the footage has ended up on the Internet as of yet?

The footage showed an A-10 GAU-8 strike on the team hiding in cover. An F-16 later took out the truck.

Video can be seen at this link:

    Okay MigMan

I saw the picture of that Flogger H with what is supposed to be an AM-39 Exocet… but where is tha acquisition/guidance radar?

I think that this aircraft – and some others with sometimes “strange loads” -were displayed only to fool foreign intel specialists. Iraki where supposed too to have fitted their SA-2 Guideline with an infrared seeker…

Acording to me, the only aircraft wired to carry the Exocet – and which actually used them – where : SA 331 Super-Frelo / Super Etandard (five on loan – four sent back to the French Navy) and the Mirage F1EQ6.

The typical load for an Iraqi MiG-23BN is the same as for any other Flogger H…

Huh? That isn’t a Flogger H. Can you not see the radome? No fin fillet. Looks like a Flogger G.

Yes Iraq fitted a lot of their SAMs with various seekers. They used a lot of these weapons in the No Fly Zones in an attempt to bring down Coalition aircraft without the need for radar guidance.

    Recent news on Serbian MiG-29s:

“Serbian Defense Minister Zoran Stankovic said four MIG-29 jetfighters will be overhauled as planned and paid for from the National investment fund by the end of this year, Belgrade’s B92 radio reported Monday.

But the fifth warplane will have to wait until the government finds more money…”

I found the clips of the CH-47 and C-130 under fire from insurgents.

They are in the end of the 4 min. video, amazing, nerver saw flares being released in a real situation.

    Not a CH-47. That is a CH-46.

Canberra, B-109, is in the museum at Moron.

‘I flew Argentina´s Air Force Canberras between 1992 and 1998 as a pilot, until the Squadron was deactivated. I won´t add anything new about their operational qualities or performances, but a tale about the “lucky aircraft”, instead. Canberra B-Mk-62 Registration Number B-109 (original british number WJ-109), which is in fact displayed at our Aeronautics Museum since 2000, had a colourful career in the Air Force. These are its main highlights:
1-By unanimous opinions from most pilots I flew with and including myself, B-109 was by far the nicest aircraft to fly: well balanced, vicious free, nice response through all the flight envelope.
2-It flew several bombing missions during the South Atlantic Conflict in 1982, always coming back home.
3-Although it went through several in-flight emergencies during its career, all the crews returned safely (the last one happened to me in 1994, when the starboard engine suffered a massive collapse and literally “swallowed” the first stages of the compressor).
4-In 1997, during a TV documentary footage at its operational Air Force Base, B-109 was unofficially named “Karina”, after one of the TV programme members – a nice looking girl – flew formation and low level tactics in a rear ejection seat.
5-It was the last Canberra to fly in Argentina.

I have fond memories of the Red Arrows from Kemble practising their stuff over the Cotswolds. Those were the days … no sooner would they depart than you’d get an earful-and-a-half from Concorde (002?) out of Fairford!

Sorry if this one makes some of us realise our antiquity – but does anyone know whether the Gnat single seater was ever considered for use by the RAF or was it only ever an export model… and where can I see one in the UK?

    All the info here:

Yeah, that’s the one. Is there any way to confirm if it is a firefighting training aid?

Did that read through ten pages of interesting tales and can add a few more aircraft to the list of users but did not find out too much about their use and not one picture so I am still looking for the colour .

Try posting on the aircrew forum at:

    http://www.pprune.org/forums/

The guys on there should help you.

Just Google it. If you do you’ll see types such as F-4, Canberra etc and various stories from Pprune etc.

    That’s no Navy F-4……it’s an E model I think.

I believe I’ve seen this photo before, and I want to say the airplane got down in one piece with little or no damage.

It appears to be a 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron F-4E mishap in Iceland. The aircraft landed safely.

There had been rumors concerning kills achived by Italian Starfighters or Tornado ADV…..
None would have been confirmed since the left government of that period would not hit the sensibility of green pacifist and comunist side of the parliament.
    Your opinion?

Why do you believe the rumours? The Serb MiG-29 air-to-air kills are well documented. The kills by one Dutch and one U.S. F-16. The other four by U.S. F-15s. One air-to-air combat AMRAAM damaged MiG-29 made an emergency landing at Nis on the first night of the conflict.

[QUOTE=MiG-23MLD;1076311]Do you think it is easy to get videos showing kills in fact look at all the videos about the F-15 air to air combat and and you only will see RED FLAG footage and 0 but 0 air to air kills done by F-15s where are the 101 F-15 kills so proudly claimed?

    Flogger,
What do you want radar tapes? You have heard of BVR kills at night? Why do you think that US F-15 air-to-air kills were up close and personal?
