So to the future, Is 558 going to appear at Lowestoft ? Is she going to spend two lovely overnights here at Norwich ?
There are a lot of local people booking days off work just to see her !
There are also an even greater number of people poised with cameras around “Norwich International” I will be one of both parties, if only I could get an answer ! So over to you who know ! (and those who will just speculate).
Keith.
Looks like XH558 will be operating out of RAF Waddington for Lowestoft.

This simply must be one of those stupid journo-mistakes that crop up from time to time to call their whole profession into question:

Frankly, if this is true it can compete for the weirdest military acquisition prize for 2008*.
* perhaps we could come up with some sort of title for a prize like that (the Pinochet… or some other dictator famous for buying unusual, often useless, kit).
Definately a mix up.

Welcome, Kevin. Nice shots. I particularly like the banking Mirage. She looks great in that colour scheme!
Cheers

Nice set, Gary. The Vimy was certainly a heart stopping moment. Great skills by the crew to veer her away from the crowdline.

Planning an event should begin with ‘Car Parking’. As such, during the initial ‘planning phase’ a decision should be made regarding where to stage the event. If a risk assessment concludes that car parking arrangements are not ‘fit for purpose’ during poor weather (and a quick look at the Eniroment Agency Flood Map of the area certainly points you in that direction), an alternative location should be considered (assuming that hard standing areas within the base cannot be used).
Alternatively, if you insist on staging the event in the same location, then a comprehensive ‘wet weather contingency plan’ should be drawn up well in advance.
First time cancelled in 38 years! You have the problem of on base water-logged conditions and the effect that can have on pedestrians. RAF Waddington had the same problem last year with the amount of rain. Who is going to pay for all the contingency recovery vehicles to pull cars out of the mud etc just in case it rains hard and floods? The planners have a duty of care to the public under such severe weather conditions. The problems with severe weather and such public events is something that is always going to be a problem.
Recent quote from Tim Prince.
‘Tim Prince, director of the tattoo, told BBC News he would move the event rather than cancel again next year.’

Some good news!
‘Farnborough International Airshow has offered members of the Friends of the Royal International Air Tattoo (FRIAT) free entry to the airshow on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 18-July 20.
To gain entry, FRIAT members must be carrying their FRIAT 08 membership card.
However, anyone accompanying the FRIAT member must follow the normal arrangements for entry to Farnborough International 2008.
FRIAT members who have already purchased Farnborough International 2008 tickets, will not be eligible to claim a refund.’

What a sham !!!!
Why was there no ‘wet weather contingency plan’ ???
How about clearing a large proportion of the ‘static’ area and using this for parking. Surely that would have been better than cancelling the entire event (and I’m sure that they would have done this if the queen’s visit depended on it !!!!!). Its started raining from Wednesday, so they must have had time to reorganize things.
I for one am £300 out of pocket (hotel accommodation that will not get refunded) because of the event organizers ‘woefully inadequate’ wet weather contingency plan.
Surely the organizers have an obligation (to all those people that had paid to support the event, and travelled incredible distances, at considerable expense) to ensure that there was somewhere decent enough to park !!!! I know for a fact that several enthusiasts had travelled from Germany, some from even as far as Japan !!!
Planning for the entire event should start with ‘car parking’. After all, if you can’t get people through the door, you can’t have an event in the first place.
Forget ‘RAF Fair-Weather’ in future, it’s time to find another venue.
No on-base parking for security reasons. Vehicle search bays would have to have been set up as per those for pedestrians. Where was the extra trained personnel going to be found to man such facilities? It just wasn’t going to happen to make such a change at such short notice. Such a change to the security arrangements would have provided an easy loop-hole for terrorists wanting to exploit it. Off-base parking was introduced in 2002 after the events of 9/11.

Brilliant set of photos there Paul :cool:
Am I right that the Tail of a B-52 had a tail gun in it?
Regards
James
Yes. It used to carry a M61 Vulcan 20mm cannon. They were removed during the 1990s. It was remotely controlled from the crew compartment in the B-52H.

Thanks for looking.

You weren’t by any chance the guy stood next to me on Saturday were you? You’d remember me by the fact I was getting extremely annoyed with some rather ill disciplined kids!
Paul
Hi Paul,
Only if you were outside on the A15! I fully support the airshow, but choose to shoot a bit closer to the action and a bit more sun friendly.
Cheers

Hi Paul,
Great shots! Love the Vulcan images and the rear ground shot of the Typhoon. You’ve certainly got the hang of it! For rotors I normally use 1/200th and for props 1/320th.
Cheers
