    Leuchars is a great wee show indeed, not making it this year. If you are going in the airfield you can pretty much park yourself anywhere along the line and get great views. If you are shooting,however, save yourself £20 and head to the south of the runway.. Shooting from within the show looks south, so, if sunny, all will be backlit. There are places aplenty to go south of the runway to shoot. A great idea is going to arrivals day. Below is a posting i made here of last years.
    Have a great day regardless.

    Oh one other thing ,if driving go to one of the special park and ride car parks, I think it costs £2 to park (used to be free)usually there is free bus into the show,compared with £10 to park on base, and beats all the crowd exiting.. If travelling by train.. the station is under 5 mins walk from the entrance.
    This link will be helpful for finding vantage spots outwith the base:

    Hope this helps.

    Nice one Rab… this brings back painful memories to me… That was going to be my first ever airshow,going with my uncle and all my cousins in a big camper van.. and on the friday i was doing what silly 5 year olds get up to… doing my balancing act on a metal fence in a local football field and slipped and broke my collar bone… so..no PIK airshow for me!!:mad:
    THANKS RAB!!!:mad::mad::diablo:
    Actually i just recently had a look at some super 8 film my uncle took of the show featuring Vulcan,Concorde and some other mil types i have no idea about.
    Sorry to make an aside… thought i’d share a story about i think it was the 1983 air show.. there was big rumours that the NASA Space shuttle may do a fly by or even land (on the back of it’s 747 of course) well it was a very hot day and some Jaguars had just done their display and nowt else was due to display for about 25 mins, so everyone was streaming back towards the hangars for some shelter or to get a drink, i stayed at the line waiting, i glanced left and caught sight of something far out on approach, grabbed my bincs and could just make out wings,nose etc.. of an aircraft which looked like it had something on it’s roof, and shouted out at full volume. “It’s the Space Shuttle!!” which caused a stampede of ageing and young spotters back to the line just in time to see a………………..Falcon 50 land!!!:o
    Luckily i was a gangly young skinny thing with fast legs and ran inside a Jetstream hangar to hide LOL… sorry to anyone who threw their cold beer down and got crushed trying to get their camera gear out.
    Am thinking, does anyone know if this was the same show in which a BA 707 diverted in during the show on a PAN landing on 1 engine and clearing the perimeter fence by about 10 feet? remember folk thinking the fire engines tearing down the runway after her was part of the show!!!

    All i can do is laugh.

    UK with HSR, yeah and i see myself as a billionaire in the future :diablo:

    An odd comment Nick? Not so long ago you could have substituted “UK with HSR” with “London to New York in under 4 hours” or “Human in space” “London to Paris by train in under 2 1/2 hours” etc… I don’t see HSR in any way fantastic/impossible. A “mere” matter of building new tracks, as was done in many other countries long ago, HSR will be a reality in the UK.
    May take 15,20 years and a LOT of money ,but it will happen.

    LOL Steve!:D:D excellent
    A guy is getting dressed for work and is listening to the morning show and a traffic report comes in of a warning that there is a car going down the wrong way of the M8.. Worried that he knows his Blonde girlfriend uses the M8 and had left half an hour earlier he frantically phones her in case she never heard the warning.. He tells her to “look out, some loony is going the wrong way on the motorway”.. the Blonde replies… “1 loony!! There’s hundreds of them!!!!”:D:D
