That, of course, is absolutely true but it is not an ethic with which many Australians have much sympathy.

Strange to relate, several Aussies of my acquaintance said almost exactly that when we won the Ashes last time. 😀

But that is precisely what they are. That definition could not have been written 50 years ago. Now we have to be sensitive of what we do and what we say and how we behave in a way that simply would not have been a consideration years ago.

But why would any reasonable person object to being asked to consider the feelings of others? It just seems part and parcel of living alongside other people.

Tell you what I think: it’s like the way everybody “knows” what’s in the Human Rights Act – except that when you come to read what the Act says, it doesn’t actually say any of the things that everybody “knows” it does.

But that still doesn’t stop some people from using it as a scapegoat whenever they’re confronted with a world that isn’t quite the shape they assumed it was.

From what I can make out, “PC” is much the same.

You are correct in that they serve on the frigates, BUT those are different missiles. They have a booster and are fired from box launchers, they would need extensive modification to be usable on an aircraft. The UGMs were retired in the last round of defence cuts IIRC. The only aircraft that we use Harpoon with is Nimrod, the Typhoons are supposedly capable of carrying them, but I’ve never heard of an RAF Typhoon ever carrying one. Since the Nimrod is going out of service, the air launched Harpoons will either leave service or more hopefully go into storage. Obviously this doesn’t affect the surface ships since they aren’t leaving service, well not this round of cuts anyway 😉

There’s nothing like that in the definition that you posted.

I cannot see much in common between the common courtesy of my youth in the 50s with the “top-down” imposed strictures by which we are required to live our lives. In fact the two are mutually exclusive, common courtesy being innate and PC being imposed.

But I can’t see any of that stuff in the definition that you quoted further up the thread.

Was it not an accurate definition, then?
