I find it very strange that all these BA flights should divert to Europe and Ireland , when there is open airport with lots of space and with a bus ride to Heathrow.

Yes, did a single orbit at 28000′ just S of The Wirral and now appears to be heading back to LTN.

It’s becoming a bit of a mess up there now, there is a BA B777 holding over the W coast of Ireland, a BA B767 holding over N Wales/NW Cheshire and a BA B777 and B747 holding SW of the Isle of Man.

An Eazyjet A319 has recently lifted from Luton. Another test flight, maybe?
