You meet with less than 100% agreement and then start pretending that it was all meant as a wind-up from the outset, usually. :p

Sky High has it dead right further up the thread – whether or not US citizens wish to exercise their rights under the laws of that country is no concern of ours here in the UK.

This works both ways, of course.

Less so than the UK, there is no state religion in the US.

    100% factually correct.

So what do you reckon are the chances of an atheist – or any other kind of non-Christian for that matter – becoming President?

It was neither, as you are no doubt perfectly aware.

One of his best books isn’t part of his well-known “Discworld” canon.

It’s a parody of The Omen, called Good Omens. He co-wrote it with Neil Gaiman and it is, in my opinion, a masterpiece of the genre.:)

Oh, you certain should. His earlier stuff at any rate, before he started to re-cycle plots.

It’s Terry Pratchett, by the way. Poor chap’s deen diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which he rather splendidly described as “an embeggerance” (with a “u” replacing the second “e”).

    Well spotted (and now corrected).

I had the radio on in the background, which clearly distracted me.

That’s my excuse, anyway, and I’ll be sticking to it.

The version with the capital letter refers to someone who talks LIKE THIS and has a horse called Binky.

He tends to favour the scythe rather than guns, though. 😉

    Alas, further misapprehension.

The ECHR has nothing to do with the EU.

It pre-dates the EU, and several signatories (and ratifiers) of the ECHR are not EU members.

Still, “in thrall and subordinate” earns you 10/10 for creative vocabulary. 😉
