If you do want to talk about capital punishment, then why not start a thread about it so that people who don’t want to go round and round in the same tired old circles can avoid it?

No you hold reserves and even if deployed from Bergen (190 mls – 60 mins slow heli or slow aircraft) or the airport at Oslo (mins max 30) would have been some more lives saved in the shooting massacre.

Those responsible for dealing with the immediate aftermath of these terrible events didn’t have the twin luxuries of hindsight or a second guess.

I’m sorry, but you’re making definitive statments about this subject despite apparently having very little understanding of the issues and conflicting priorities involved in the management of a major incident.

You clearly have an axe to grind, but this is hardly an appropriate subject to co-opt to that purpose.

See if you can guess where the vast bulk of Norway’s available Police helicopters and specialist anti-terrorist and firearms units would have been at the time of the attack on the island, and why they were there.

Until the reports of the massacre started to arrive, the Norwegian authorities had every reason to regard the bomb in Oslo as the major incident that it was and to allocate the resources of the emergency services accordingly.

How on earth were they to know – there and then at that moment – that the bomb in Oslo was actually only a diversion for the real atrocity?

Despite your protestations to the contrary, you seem to be criticising the Norwegian authorities for their lack of superhuman powers and inability to see into the future.

Which is risible and, frankly, vaguely insulting to those who had to deal with these atrocities at first-hand.

It’s always easy to sit at a PC many hundreds of miles away and pontificate about what should have been and what ought to have been.

Wisdom at a distance after the event is no wisdom at all.
