Okay a tide mill along the same lines of old. Sluice gate, reservoir, but what consistent tidal rise and flow can we be guaranteed for each location?
You do know that accurate tide tables for the entire UK coastline have been in existence for centuries now, don’t you?
Again may be useful for outlying islands but for mainland Britain would you not almost have to fence the entire coastline with a continuous tide mill concept power generator houses.
Poor in-landers like Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Brum, Cambridge, Oxford and most of the home counties – back to candles made from bees wax possibly.
That’s just silly.
How do you think electricity from our current power stations gets to these places now?
So far as I know, no-one is proposing to dismantle the National Grid so the existing supply network would remain in place.
May work but limited in application and hardly likely to cope with power requirements for mainland Britain.
It’s a good job that no-one here has made any such claim then, isn’t it?
But there’s no doubt that – given the right topography and sufficient investment – tidal power can make a contribution to a rational long-term energy policy.
The French are no mugs when it comes to national infrastructure, so you may find a little research into the Rance Estuary tidal barrage rather illuminating.
