The A300 is still in production after all these years, DashQ, and has a very good safety record indeed.

You’re just as safe in one of them as you are in any well-maintained and well-flown airliner.

I can remember the days when a mid-week morning visit to Ringway would often include 3 of these beauties, all in airline service. (2 x BOAC, 1 x BCAL)

What a shame that we can’t build aircraft of this magnificence any more.

Hmmm….. but if there was an inherent fault in the aircraft then one would expect to see a pattern of similar incidents involving the same type – simple common sense tells us that.

I’m not aware of any such pattern so, like Sandy and Hand, I feel that the actual cause of the incident was probably far more complex than any of the protagonists would have us believe.
