There are plenty of those baggage size check gizmos everywhere. Several at check in, several at security and several at each gate.
If your bag doesn’t fit, you pay. The maximum sizes are clearly printed on your online check in sheet and all over the FR website.
If you waited until the gate to find out, and your bag truly is bigger than the clearly indicated max size, that’s your fault
Or perhaps not.
I remember the BBC – Watchdog, I think – doing an item last Autumn concerning a well-known low-cost airline that was operating quite a neat little scam.
Hand baggage was being checked at the check-in desk in the usual way, by making sure that the item in question fitted through a size gauge.
Hand baggage was checked again at the gate – using a slightly smaller gauge – and passengers whose bags had “magically grown larger” since check-in obliged to either cough up an excess charge or leave their bag at the gate.
But it wasn’t Ryanair…….
