If the UK had sold Harriers to China in the 1970’s we may see Chinese copies on some Invicible-like ships?
Chinese Sea Harrier carriers would have certainly upset the neighbours 😀
I have always thought that V/STOL operations would be a better way for China to get a naval aviation capablity, imagine a ultra large cargo ship converted into a V/STOL super carrier with a 100+ Sea Harrier’s or Yak-141’s :diablo:

😮 🙂 Fantastic posts tbzz, keep them coming!
I would like to thank all the posters on this thread for all the great pictures, well done everyone! 🙂
Here are those Typhoon with 6x 1000lb Paveway’s pics, I wonder when we will see it with 4x Storm Shadow? 😉
😉 As Papa Lima said, it would take many hours to read all the articles so if anyone comes across anything particularly interesting post a link and page number here.
This article features a SWATH ship with 2x Seakings, ASROC and Sea Chaparral missiles and a A-4 model with air cushion landing gear (page 10) http://www.history.navy.mil/nan/backissues/1970s/1973/jul73.pdf
This article features the XFV-12A V/STOL fighter (page 10) http://www.history.navy.mil/nan/backissues/1970s/1973/sep73.pdf
I’m a long time fan of the Sea Control Ship concept, I think a new design SCS fitted with the latest equipment would be a far better way to spend a naval budget than most of the warship designs around at the moment.
Here is a old post on the SCS http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=629312&postcount=14
This back issue of Naval Aviation News magazine has a article on the SCS (page 42) http://www.history.navy.mil/nan/backissues/1970s/1972/mar72.pdf
Here is a nice pic of the SCS derived SPS Principe de Asturias.
I just remembered this link posted by Tiornu which features plans for flight deck cruisers from the 30’s http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/albums/s511-a.htm
Here is an example – 12,000 ton flight deck cruiser (“CF”) with a main battery of three 8″ guns http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/s-file/s511-04.jpg
This is a good book I own on hybrid warships http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1557503745/ref=sib_rdr_dp/102-4064001-5241721?%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&no=283155&st=books&n=283155
Gazelle, Griffon and V-22’s. Is it just me or does that Humvee look smaller than usual under that V-22
RAF Chinooks and the Sikorsky S-60.
More CH-53 pics.
According to holty http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?p=897089#post897089, a Typhoon has flown with six Paveway bombs, I’m looking forward to those pics 🙂
You will have to settle for these for the moment 😉
