I haven’t found any info yet, but it could be a Minesweeper.
I’d like to see a shipboard helicopter that can easily switch roles between ASW, ASuW, AMCM, CSAR and troop support.
I’d like this idea applied to hovercraft too 🙂

Ja, I guess a large and powerful helicopter is a advantage in Airborne Mine Countermeasures but not a necessity. I believe that the Soviets did use the Mi-14 for the role and the latest equipment can be towed by a Seahawk sized helicopter. I think the Japanese are going to use the EH-101 Merlin as well.
It looks like the future will see surface combatants operating Organic Airborne Mine Countermeasures helicopters in the same way that they operate ASW helicopters.

I was 10 years old in 1985 and both my parents smoked so I wasn’t going to try smoking anyway. It was a creepy little film but I don’t remember being disturbed by it, being a cheeky little git I probably told Mum that Dad was on the TV 🙂
I’ve only ever had one drag on a cigarette when I was drunk and being silly and that was one too many. It amazes me that so many people still start smoking.

I remember it, I think had a sort of ”Blade Runner” style look about it and it might have been narrated by John Hurt.

The Natural Born Smoker. This 60 second film was produced by the Health Education Council in December 1985.

Steve: mate I’ve heard of this system and I know that the RN is looking at it very closely for their Merlins. What I’d like tio know is how big this system is and if it could be incorperated into our Super Seasprites? Or if we could use our RAWS Seahawks with this system.
I don’t think the RAMICS gun system would fit in a Seasprite without a lot of modification but the lidar probably could be carried as the Magic Lantern lidar was fitted to USN Seasprites http://www.kamanaero.com/EODC/eodcml.htm
It would probably fit a Seahawk though.

This is the Spanish design the Australians are considering, I think the pic shows the ship Spain is buying.
A TSR thread alway’s provide’s so much heat of discussion :diablo: .
I think that is because the TSR 2 seems superior to everything that replaced it. Apart from the lack of stealth it still looks like more than a match for current aircraft.
Although I wouldn’t say they are a total waste of money, the UK has spent too much money on Anti-Submarine Warfare assets in the post-Cold war period.
I think the money spent on the RNs Merlin ASW helicopters, Type 23 ASW frigates, nuclear submarines and the RAFs Nimrods would have been better spent on more multi-role and cheaper equipment.
The Rapid Airborne Mine Clearance System (RAMICS) is a laser radar combined with a gun firing super-cavitating bullets to counter floating and moored mines. The USN is going to deploy it on the Sikorsky MH-60S Knighthawk, I’d like to see it on RN Merlins too.
