Thanks Alan, have a good day, we found Friday last year to be “very interesting” with displays that did not appear in the show.

You clearly didn’t go last year then. Historic was very well represented.

As mentioned before purists should stay away. If, however, you have an interest in aeroplanes in general but not too keen on the cut and thrust of the “Modern” forum you MAY find this of interest.

Obviously if the mods feel this is inappropriate then please move the thread.

Thank you Alan. Hope you have a good weekend at DX. It is a shame that this year these shows clashed. Fast jets and modern are not really my thing as such, but it is engineering and has wings so is of interest. It is certainly an experience, and one worth having whatever your core interest.

Please do not forget my competition to spot the errors in my prose. It is 10 points for spelling, when my spell checker cannot tell the difference between a device to hang clothes on and a building to house aeroplanes. Grammar errors attract 15 points, but only 5 if in the title and cannot be corrected!! And we all know what points mean.

Unfortunately, bad health stopped play yesterday and it looks like today. One of the disadvantages of advanced booking is that to add to your discomfort you have the pain of watching your cash for the show and hotel disappear down the drain.

Watch out for further posts, I hope, on “historic” aeroplanes visiting the show, on “historic” events and, of course, a look at airframes that have the potential to be classed as “historic” in the future. If you are a “strictly come historic” puriton, type of person you may do well to steer clear of this thread this year as, unlike last year, “historic” is not very well represented.

Let battle commence. With the release of their Master Plan, oh sorry, scoping report, RiverOak appear now to be getting their ducks in a row for what, no doubt, will be a big battle, I am sure Mrs. Gloag will not give her investment up easily. With the London airport expansion on hold following Brexit will this privately funded venture come along at just the right time.
Sit back and watch the sparks at least walk if not fly.

    The report itself

Haven’t read it yet and as we are leaving for what is reportedly going to be a sunny Gloucestershire/Hampshire for two weeks.

Hearse Chasing. An easy way of making money by creating headline news to sell papers and programmes by making unsupported allegations against deceased prominent people. In this case the newspapers were front page headlining based on information from a programme that had not then been broadcast. Libel is a civil matter and you would have to be very rich to contest it especially when the person who has been libelled is dead.

Of course, offences against minors is a criminal offence and I would be happy if the evidence had been presented to the police and that the police had made a statement that they were bringing a prosecution. In no way do I want to appear to be defending people who assault minors, or women or in fact anybody, but I do like to see some tangible evidence before a well known name is dragged through the mud, as mud will stick, guilty or not.

Yes but my test would be would you be able to make these programmes and headlines on the evidence they have if the person was alive?

Would you be able to bring a successful prosecution?

There have been successful prosecutions of people who are still alive.

As Madeleine is “missing” the implication, surely, is murder, but is, of course, worth investigating.

This is the original article I saw which includes this

“She remembered a particularly disturbing incident from when she was 14, when the couple asked her to join them in bed.
Mrs Freud left the room to make breakfast and her husband sexually assaulted her, she said.”

Although I have not read that anywhere else.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3641823/He-d-stroke-kiss-horrible-child-60-years-woman-abused-Clement-Freud-reveals-agony-TV-documentary.html

This would imply evidence as Lady Freud is, of course, still alive, and has been implicated in an improper proposal to a minor.

reliable report containing evidence of the recent allegations

Thank you guys for your interest but I had seen those “reports”, however, to me they did not seem to contain any actual “evidence” at all. What I was looking for was just some form of confirmation that there is substance to these allegations.

I always understood that in this country there was a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. I haven’t been able to find any published information that one might possibly call “evidence”.

Obviously, these charges are very serious and, if true, I in no way condone such behaviour involving minors. However, to me it does seem odd that the ladies in question, who were mature older adults before Freud died did not raise the issue prior to his death.

The third instance was reported to the police but again 40 years after the events and post Freud’s death.

It seems very strange to me that these revaluations are made on commercial television. But the synic in me can see that there is money in making such a programmes and paper news headlines especially as these seemed to appear before the programme was broadcast.

That said it is difficult to understand the comments made by his wife.

I think it is going to be difficult now to actually prove anything one way or the other but I am certain, guilty or not, we will see further ladies coming forward with allegations. because if he is guilty it would be unlikely that he stopped at 3 and if not guilty because there are always people who seek the attention and have seen the accusations made against other prominent deceased people.

Are we seeing the start of a new phenomena, hearse chasing?

I didn’t , wasn’t going to and wont be discussing what you said, however, part of the pleasure of this forum is the banter and jokes, some long running. Hence my response to the “banter” made by the OP.

    And I didn’t start a new thread.

The purpose and substance of my post was to draw attention to one of the existing threads and the fact that the source of the pictures was old and that they had been seen in the linked thread.

So I am not clear why you chose to “quote” my post when you could have made your valid point without so doing. :highly_amused:

All old Flight are freely available on line and downloadable for private use. So unless you like to actually possess them there wouldn’t be much of a market I would have thought.

I have bought, on Ebay a few odd older copies of of The Aeroplane but soon found that the wartime issues did not contain much of interest other than the adverts, presumably for security reasons. Cost was usually around £2-£3 including postage.

Then a bundle of about 50 came up starting at 99p. They were, IIRC, 40s,50s and 60s. I was a little surprised to get them for about £5. It turned out that the guy selling them had no interest in them but was at a tip when somebody was throwing them away and thought somebody would be interested in them.
I was too embarrassed to give him £5 so gave him £20 and a thank you for saving them.

Like everything I suppose the value is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly prices do seem to vary a lot and, in general, to interested parties I would have said unexpectedly low.

Thanks Archer for spotting my typo good job it is in the body and not the title so I am able to correct it.
Not a “modern” man myself but just interesting to see that the Netherlands are able to put on a display and it is starting to look iffy about an appearance of an F35B at RIAT. Unless somebody knows better that is.
