Hey, steady on guys your making me embarrassed.
We have only been to the States once and we found everybody so helpful. The guy had come a hell of a long way to see all these Spitfires together including the two American ‘planes. He was not your stereotype American, and we have met a few of these over the last few days, but an easy and very genuine person to talk to.

Thank you Charlie for your nice comment.
It has been a fantastic weekend and the weather was stunning yesterday. Sightly different show and our 8th Red Arrows display this season, they have their own commentator!!!
Sitting next to us was a very nice gentleman from Seattle who had come over for the show to produce an article for EAA Warbirds. IWM had refused him a press pass on the grounds that “they had too many applications”. So much for the special relationship. One wonders if the Sun had a press pass.
With no other contacts in the UK he was lucky to be staying in a hotel with a FOD member, whom we had met on Saturday, and he brought him in as a guest.
As I had obtained most of the pictures I wanted on Saturday and I noticed that my equipment was bigger than his, pause for titter, and with the special relation ship and lend lease in mind we swapped lenses. I wanted him to go back with the best pictures possible when reporting on this event.
With one exception we have met some very nice people over this weekend.
Short intermission for the Sunday show.
A quick look around on the ground.
The guy in orange was on his own to start with, rather him than me, then the guy in blue joined him and as you can see was having a quick word in the old shell like. Seems unlikely he was telling him the weather forecast and I got the impression that he was not too happy about the risk but I may be wrong. With the job done he guided the first guy out backwards along the wing.
And our commentator for today was???
This little beauty was hiding down by ARC. DH 80A Puss Moth.
BAe 146-C1 ZE 700 of the queens flight. She was flying a Union and an RAF flag so presumably this had some significance?
Are the red seats for royal bottoms?

Well almost on the ground, this arrived Friday and was here all weekend.
The tankers were kept busy all day.
Sorry about the quality of this pic.
Mike This guy was on the front row and when the flying started he produced a selfie stick with a camera knelt down by the front fence and then held the camera up above fence level so he was lower than the fence with just the stick and camera above the fence. Really good idea I thought so I got my monopod out (no sniggering in the back row) mounted the SLR and lens and raised it the full six feet. I quickly got the idea that this wasn’t very much appreciated.
TA thanks it’s hard work but somebody has got to do it.
Rob no the printed notice was there first thing in morning yesterday. The accident on the M11 was a very unfortunate coincidence.
The 146 was here yesterday.
Charlie he was some distance away with a very loud voice and I just couldn’t let it go. So I shouted back.!!
Yesterday we sat far right in the FOD and joy of joys you can hardly hear the commentary. Have to say I didn’t miss it at all. What we could hear of it he seemed OK.
We were next to the “public” enclosure and sure enough one kid came to the front and stood in the corner basically in front of us but on other side of fence.
Later in the day when the final display was taking place there were raised voices in the public enclosure shouting at people to sit down.
Today we are in the middle unfortunately tannoy louder but we will see how it goes.
Just had a “discussion” with a gentleman who was rather loudly pontificating that the Shoreham crash was pilot error. We had a little “talk” and he eventually agreed we should wait for the official report. He hadn’t seen the interim report but had read that it was pilot error. After explaining the need to wait for the offial report and that everything else was conjecture he agreed and we shook hands on it. Fortunately he is not sitting next to us.:D
Acording to a notice in the FOD tent the restrictions over the A505 and M11 only applies if congested. That doesn’t seem too practical to me. The Spit and Typhoon display did not include any apposed passes.
Thanks Charlie it is already a fantastic day and having to slap on the sun tan lotion. Personally I prefer it cloudier.
On Monday morning the air show committee will start making plans to move the silver and gold enclosures in front of the AAM and the public and FOD enclosures down left of control tower, is my prediction.
Think the tank bank is too far the other way. In front of the AAM is about right so an enclosure here would be good, especially if it served free drinks and biscuits, oh and had a toilet for the wife.:D
The Yak display team enters by flying over the crowd.
Plenty in the naughty field but spare a thought for those who paid to get into the school, I wouldn’t think they saw much of the display. I was told by a fireman that the school does have insurance cover and of course the money goes to a local school.
Good morning Charlie, thank you, I’ll start brushing my French accent up then:D Oh and learn the difference between a Vampire and Venom!!!
Bought a number of old books for a £1 each yesterday including a pocket book “The Idiots Guide To Plane Spotting” so I should be allright:D
