Now you’ve really done it and mentioned buried Spit…….
For the record, I actually quite liked it – and it made me want to read up on Howard Hughes himself. Isn’t that, well, kind of what we’d like the new Dams film to achieve??
Hmm my first sentence I thought related to that and I thought the rest just followed on about instigating interest in finding out about something of interest together with example.
The last para relates with somebody else posting that the film, Dam Busters, was instrumental in his interest in aviation.
I can see it doesn’t scan properly, so sorry for any confusion.
This is good news but a little confused. Is this a VTTS members only event?
Can anybody tell me why the oil consumption is so relatively high please? Is it just size or is there something inherent in the design?
OK thanks for that.

Exactly which is why it is important to keep as much as possible to the facts. I want my children and grandchildren to ask was that acceptable back then. Yes and a lot worse. They genuinely do not know or can even understand based on today’s world.
We, mankind, have done a lot of bad things over the centuries changing facts and covering them up is not the way to go to please anybody. Liverpool Museum and Penrhyn Castle, sugar money, both have substantial exhibitions on the wrongs of the slave trade and how many got rich on the back of it.
The film was not my introduction to aviation that was Nevil Shute Norway who wrote books that were a microcosm of life in England, and Australia in the 30,s to 50’s, especially aviation. The race subject is covered in a typically British way in his book The Chequered Board. Get it “chequered” I do now but when I was 11 it passed me by.
I think Goodwood is pretty much sold out, certainly no grandstand or packages available and the OP was enquiring about Gold Passes for DX.
Think we need some feedback from OP where he is staying, size of party and interests.
Personally I think that “racist” was an adjective too far. I do not recall seeing anything racist on this thread. Happy to be proved wrong.
Don’t be a dick Moggy, you just merged a new thread into an old one, and as a result I removed my valid post and then you have posted this.
I stand by what I said however, these threads (now one big merged thread) are a waste of useless, baseless blather that get periodically sparked by inaccurate, repetitive tabloid reports.
Is “dick” a term of endearment down there then?
I suggested that the treads be merged so guess I am a dick to but it does make it easier to find a waste of useless, baseless blather considering how useless, wait just got to get Roget’s out, the forum search engine is.
Till now I have looked in the futile and ever decreasing hope there might be something new, positive, and interesting about the film or the real historical events come up – which very occasionally and in ever decreasing frequency there might be, amongst all the inane, childish, snide, racist and downright stupid comments that get posted by the majority in these threads, over and over again.
Where’s the button to stop receiving email alerts to this thread? This thread hurts my brain.
Ah yes but there isn’t any real news so us inane, childish, snide, racist and stupid amuse ourselves by goading other forumites. It seems to work well.:D
Sarcasm is the lowest form……
Oh I do love half a quote it goes on….
…and the highest form of intelligence.
Many would agree.
daveg4otu
I don’t disagree with anything you say, just pointed out the word used, nothing more.
Moggy
I do have some sympathy with forumites coming to the subject not having seen previous threads. There has to come a point where it is no longer reasonable to expect new comers, to the thread, to read all previous posts. I cannot remember exactly now but the crates thread had some really excellent well researched contributions but they all appeared roughly before post #1000. Certainly couldn’t expect somebody to wade through, is it, 4k now? That said in that case people without any specific knowledge on the subject, i am one such, should read those first 1k posts to arrive at an informed opinion.
As Dave said just do not read them. Ah but then you have to.
Ah but if they keep the decision secret on the name then we will all flock to see it to find out. Of course make it controversial and the free publicity generated will also boost attendance. Just a couple of marketing ploys.
I say make and be dammed.
Thanks for posting that.
Whilst perhaps not quite so glamorous a share in the Cat is very affordable, in comparison. Unfortunately she who must be obeyed, RIP GC, didn’t agree!
Yes but the word “rehashing” was used. Please read previous 300+ posts which you may not have been aware of at the time of your post.
