Hi guys,
This just in.
a quote from my friend.
***just spoke to my mate and all he can tell me is that it is the 747 jumbo closest to the motorway. he also tells me that there is also work on a contract to cut up 15 737’s belonging to ryan air and easy jet, that would be flown into prestwick for the job.***
So as said on this post already it is the 747 that is to be dismantled. But when I origionally asked him he was sure it was the heavy lift aircraft.
Sorry for any confusion and any misinformation it wasnt posted here out of malice but from crossed information.
I apologise once again.
Well Doughnut,
Its only by posting things like this that we find out the truth in the matter and if people want to believe EVERYTHING they read and not bother to follow through on the posts then thats their lookout. If the present owner wants to take up an issue with me then fine but I didnt ask for your opinion on what he thinks surely its up to him to approach me.
I cant be the only one thats passed on information and then found out something different. Never made a mistake of got something wrong before doughnut?
Thanks to the guys who posted pics and to Ren Frew who gave some info on the subject.
Yes David I know when you say jumbo that everyone thinks jumbo jet but I did ask specifically what colours she was in and if it was the heavy lift one knowing that she was in the area the guy was talking about and he said yes so I can only go by information given but as I said 1 email will fix this problem.
Well my friend did say the “Jumbo” sitting nearest the road where the hangar was so I suppose it could be a 747 I guess. But I asked him specifically as I knew the Heavy Lift was there and wondered if he was talking of the same aircraft.
Tell you what guys I will email him and try and get as many details from him as I can to try and sort the confusion.
Hi David,
Is the aircraft in question at Southend.
If so it must mean another aircraft is for the chop but my friend was pretty definate about which aircraft was getting dismantled.
Perhaps his friend has the contract for dismantling it down at Southend?
I am only passing on information which was given to me. I personally dont know much about it.
Anyone know what the other one on the opposite side of the airfield is?
I have now idea.
Is there another Belfast on the other side if so which one is it?
Belfast to be dismantled.
Hi guys,
just heard today 16/6/03 from a friend that and I quote ** The aircraft at Prestwick near the main road where there is a hangar is going to be dismantled as is the other one on the other side of the airfield**
I asked which one and he said **The big jumbo one**
I asked if this was the one in the Heavy Lift colours and he said **Yes thats right the red and blue one**
He has a friend who has the contract to dismantle it. Now I dont know if it is being dismantled to take somewhere else or whether its being dismantled for scrap but I can email him and find out. I can also try and get him to get some pictures of it as he is going doen there this weekend to see the thing and also to see a couple of wrecks which a friend of his has. I am thinking its the same friend that has the contract.
Sorry guys but this is all I know at present.
Not too bad for a sim. Was this using photo realistic scenery or add on scenery.
Hi Snapper,
Nice to see some precise dates for a change. Some other entries I have read in the past were not very detailed.
Unfortunately I will be working that Monday and dont have the cash otherwise I would have come down for the Memorial. But I will be thinking of them on the day.
Nice to see some real history in black and white.
nice piece of history there Mark. You dont often get to see things like that.
Hi dhfan
sounds like the same one. Ever heard of the name Dave Johnson. I am pretty sure it him who flies it. Although his 2 sons are passed to fly it he wont let them fly at airshows.
See other pics from the show here.
I now have 8 more letters and will be sending them on to the council.
thanks again guys.
In the hangar.
Just another little picture. This time in the hangar with assorted items around for scale.
All taken at the Scottish model airshow in May. At Glenrothes airfield. (Fife Airport)
Hope you enjoyed the photos.
More of the same. Taxi out for take off.
