I have been asked by a local historian to try and trace details of an aircrash at South Moor Golf Course, near Stanley County Durham during World War 2.

Any of the accident experts able to help

I lived in Quaking Houses right next to South Moor when the plane you refer to, crashed on the golf course. My pals and I – I was 7 at the time – were playing in and around the old air raid shelters when it came down and were among the first on the scene. To this day, I remember the huge crater it had made and the bits of debris lying around.
I moved away from Quaking Houses sometime in 1952 and have never been back since: perhaps on my next visit to the UK, I’ll get round to going their again.
